Old Style Daily Monday 27th August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I managed to get quite a lot done yesterday. I defrosted the outside chest freezer and sorted out the contents so that it is all split between the old and new freezer, so they are ready for the winter. The inventories are nicely up to date now as well. Then I decided to tackle the kitchen cupboards, giving them a good clean and checking my lists of what I have.

For some unknown reason I decided to paint the sliding doors on my wardrobes. They will need at least one more coat but at least they look nice and clean now.

Amongst other things I found moussaka at the bottom of the freezer, so had that with some salad for dinner yesterday. I have got a turkey goulash out as well and that will be dinner today. I’m not sure what with yet.

TA It was good to hear that the AB’s have kicked in and that Mr TA was lucid and compos mentis when you got there yesterday, that is really good news. It sounds like he is much more comfortable now. I hope that you managed to enjoy your glass of wine and get an early night, and some rest.

Also thinking of the others who are poorly or looking after those who are poorly.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning All

TA - So pleased you saw an improvement in Mr TA yesterday, hope it continues.
    You were busy yesterday Holly!

It was like winter yesterday, chilly, breezy and wet all day. It's not raining at the moment but still looks grey and miserable.

Went to help DD for a few hours, I think the house is a bigger job than they thought, there are about 4 layers of wallpaper in the bedroom, each one has been painted but she's nearly with that room and the living room, the rest can wait.

I was just getting ready for bed when my friend called, her Dad's care home phoned to say he wasn't well but they'd had a glass of wine so I had to take her up, not sure what the situation is yet, I'll hear later.

I'm up early today as I'm going back to swimming before work, I haven't been for ages so it'll be tough!

Not heard from Meanmarie for a while, are you OK?

    Happy Monday! Take care. XX

Morning all, thank you for starting us off Hollyharvey.

It is quite cold here and although I haven't yet looked at the forecast, I think my washing might have to dry indoors.

I didn't do much yesterday other than making dinner and I enjoyed not doing things for a change. I have also slept really well, nearly 7 hours. Today I'll have a minor tidy but I don't need to do much more than that.

It was good to read that Mr TA is doing much better. I hope that continues and that you can get some rest TA. Thinking of you and of the other poorlies and carers.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Good morning.

Great news from TA to wake up to. Fingers crossed that the improvements continue. Hugs to you.

Yesterday I was spectacularly unproductive, something I really needed and enjoyed. I've got a busy week coming up.

The rain just poured down all day yesterday, very nasty, so nomwaahing done. It can wait until Wednesday when the forecast is for sun.

Now to get organised. I wish everyone a happy Monday.
  • Morning folks and what a miserable damp and chilly morning it is. Similar to yesterday in fact.

Not a lot left to say this morning after my long saga last night but, once again, I want to thank you all for the good wishes and PM's, some from regulars on here and some from lurkers who read along every day. How nice you all are and what a lovely place this is to be when you have worries to offload.

I slept much easier last night. A loo break kept me awake for a bit but I eventually nodded off again. Today is visiting again. The visiting times at this hospital are far less relaxed than our local one where it is all day between 11 and 8. This one it is 2 till 5 and then 6 till 7. Between 5 and 6 patients have tea and visitors have to leave. Yesterday DS and I went to the big Reception area to kill the time where there is a Costa, an M & S food outlet and a couple of little shops. There is a lovely big sitting out area with tables and chairs but it wasn't very inviting in the rain! I have had an M & S gift card in my purse since my birthday so I used some money off that to pay for our treats and a couple of fizzy drinks Mr TA had requested. Nothing to beat a free tea!

DS is back at work today but my DB is taking me to the hospital and will stay a while. He's got a right dry sense of humour and will cheer Mr TA up I'm sure. DS is coming in when he finishes work and will run me home after visiting. I am being well looked after! DD and the girls are calling in too at some point as they have been busy making more cards and decorated stones for grandad!

Did I say I hadn't much left to say! Here I am waffling on again! Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad and worried amongst us. I too have been wondering where MEANMARIE is and hope all is ok. I miss KARCHER too as she hasn't posted for a long while. I hope life is better for her. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast here this morning, but drying up under foot after the continous rain yesterday afternoon.

DH and myself up enjoying peaceful cuppas - DH has taken my hoover to pieces as the electric cable has split - doesn't look like he can do anything with it as there's splits in the cable in different places - so we'll probably be shopping for a new hoover later - can't complain this one is 21 years old!

Lunch yesterday was food that we would normally bbq - so I just cooked it all indoors and we ate indoors. There's a bit of leftovers - not much though. I'll organise some food later.

We'll just have a chill day today - DS1 is going to watch the local football team later they have a home game. He's watched football on tv for quite a while, but only started going to spectate in the past year or so - he goes with a friend from work and really enjoys it.

Diet got blown this weekend, so will try to be ok today, get weighed tomorrow night and will get back on it again.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly, you were a busy bee yesterday :)

Wish I could say the same but apart from cooking a roast dinner I did nothing all day, it rained into the evening so most of the time was spent sitting on the sofa reading my book or browsing on the Internet. It felt cold with the rain so had a lovely long bath as well.
It’s much nicer today and we need to get out so am thinking about taking Tilly to the big dog show on Norfolk showground, either than or a trip out to Thetford Forest so we can all stretch our legs.

Glad to see that the situation has improved with MrTA, it’s sometimes the lack of information that’s so frustrating and it would help if someone would explain to you why they have decided not to remove the stent? Hugs and thoughts to you all x

    Have a good day folks.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

TA so glad they found a way of sorting Mr.TA without resorting to surgery and that the antib's are having an effect. I was pleased to see that you got a reasonable sleep as well. You must be so tired.

CA was late coming this morning which was a good thing as I did not wake until 7.45. Took the breakfast through and had it in bed, then got up and showered. The CA has just come so OH is in the shower.

A load of washing in the machine, it looks a bit threatening so I may well dry it in the dryer, depends on how windy it is.

No plans to do anything today. I hope to start on the quilting on the baby quilt this afternoon when OH goes for his siesta. I want to try and get 2 panels done a day, then its just the binding to do.

Lamb casserole out for supper tonight, the crumble went down well yesterday, did a slightly bigger one so it will last another 2 days. Apple and rhubarb.

    Morning :)

TAyou sounded so much perkier yesterday the news did you good too :) Hope today is as positive for you all.

:bdaycake::bdaycake::bdaycake: RosyRed Hope you have a lovely birthday at the festival it was on the local news today and looks really good so have made a note for next year. Be gentle with James he's a sensitive soul :D

Had a brilliant afternoon lunch out yesterday. My friend had no clue which i was so pleased about as I was convinced she had sussed me. I had a pork roast lunch which was just delicious such a difference from the awful local carvery, everything cooked fresh and lots of it.
Nan I may have let you down on the prosecco front :o ..I wont say by how much but the !!!!!! star martini was up to standard and enjoyed by all ....Hope you enjoyed your beef did Dad behave?

Remarkably despite the prosecco overload I have no thick head but we were home for 9.30 and I went straight to bed. So plans today are to clean down stairs and continue a baby step declutter. Must get that charity bag filled.

Was hoping for some tacky bank holiday films today (its been weeks since I saw Willy Wonka) but seems the schedules are like a normal Monday so I will either start our new book club book (A Grand Old Time by Judy Leigh) or hit prime or netflix. Also have about 10 Big Bang Theories to get through ...busy busy

Food wise I am missing salad meals a bit oddly (despite having it as a side most meals) so I may go for a full on ploughmans with cheese ham and pork pie naughty but nice and easy to chuck together.

Anyway have a good bank holiday/birthday/normal monday all if you can

    Morning all,

Many thanks for the warm welcomes yesterday.

Mrs TA, so glad to read that Mr TA is feeling brighter. Thinking of you both.

Not much achieved yesterday, as felt out of sorts. DH is now feeling unwell so not sure if it is a bug or being over tired.

Today, I need to pop into mum and dad, dad needs some shopping, and mum would like a chat, lol! They only live a 5 minute walk away, we moved nearer after mum had a severe stroke and dad was taken ill. I would like to do more for them but I have fibromyalgia which limits my effectiveness.

When I get back, I will continue with completing the crochet blanket and cook the dinner which we were going to have yesterday. I also need to order some wider linen sheets, I am going for much better quality flat sheets this time .... the last lot were too cheap and they are not wide enough which drives us potty!

Anyway, I best get up and get going. Hope you all have a nice bank holiday.

    Take care.
