Eon final bill on smart payg

Hi,
2 year ago I had a smart pay as you go meter fitted for gas & electricity by Eon.

I switched to our power on 14th july 2018 , my query is about my estimated final bill off Eon, if its a smart meter why do I get an estimated bill , isn't that the whole point of a smart meter to eliminate estimate bills

Is it standard practice to send out estimates even to smart meter customers & I didnt take a reading on the day of the switch so have no idea if this estimate is right or as its so small an amount I could actually be owed by eon , I have been billed £7.32

Sorry, I'm not able to assist you directly.

However, it does seem that a wet bank holiday weekend and brought back to MSE quite a few former users. Welcome back after 8 years hiatus :)

Your posts are important, and now you have resumed posting after 8 years absence, perhaps we will enjoy more of your posts. This site really needs people to post here as otherwise it will die.

Hello kay cunningham and sorry to lose you.

With a change of supplier, it's the responsibility of the company taking over to let the losing provider have the meter readings they start their account from. The losing supplier uses the same readings to close their account. This stops the same energy from being charged twice. As these readings aren't from you but are sent by another party, they're shown as estimates regardless of the meter type.

It's important to make sure the readings we've used to close our account are the same as those used by your new supplier to start their account.

    Hope this explains.

Well so much for smart meters meaning no more estimated readings. Incredible that we are still having to pay for this absolutely pointless mess.
