Hello,
I wonder if anyone else is doing this. I became a host a few months ago having previously had lodgers via Spare Room.
We have a local theatre and I`m on the list via an agency + the theatre`s stage door list and also FB.
I`m very near to the theatre which helps the guests. It doesnt affect my council tax as this is not their permanent home and there is a tax benefit for having lodgers etc.
I`ve met some really lovely people and also was given some tickets for Flash Dance last week!

And as a Mum of a performer I'm always pleased and grateful when nice digs with friendly hosts are found!Norn Iron Club member 4730

And theatrical types tend not to want early breakfasts either.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

I went on a week long "summer school" about 7 years ago - they had a list of "local hosts" and I stayed in a nice room, with en-suite, in the bungalow of a retired couple. They provided me with a nice breakfast too each morning. They said "we only let our room to people going to the special workshops and summer schools at that venue".
It worked well for me as the price was very reasonable, when compared to a lonely and soulless B&B locally.0 -
I suppose it depends on the individual. I hate excessive noise, am highly introverted (I like time to myself) and would struggle to share my space with a stranger.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I think you`re right and you have to decide what works for you.
Often I have found that they leave early morning and often have matinees and evening performances.
They would make good burglars as I don`t hear them coming in again!
Another plus point for me as they are coming in at odd times so a deterrent to would be burglars.0 -
I rent out a section of my home on air Bnb and booking.com.
We have been very busy, our guests have their own front door which leads upstairs where there is a lounge/ kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom. They have complete privacy and look after themselves,I just clean in between guests.......easy money.0 -

Luckily you don't need to submit a tax return if you earn less than £7,500 a year from it!
But yes, imagine it does have some insurance implications.0 -

This link implies you don't have to unless you cross the threshold
But I have no idea - we barely fit inside our tiny cottage ourselves!0
