Hello...sorry if this doesn't belong here...my son will be moving to Hamilton Scotland...he will need a flat..can you tell me where some of the nicer areas of this town are please.

Also are there any Facebook groups I can join so I can keep abreast of the local area.

Thank you.

    Hamilton specifically isn't very big...

Uddingston/Bothwell is nice and nearby. I don't know Hamilton particularly.

Quarry street and surrounding areas. I don’t know Hamilton that well either. But I would say town centre. Bothwell would be more expensive I would think.

There’s chaterherault. Wrong spelling I think but it’s kind of merged into Hamilton. Edge of that is very near town centre.

As for Facebook pages where you can keep abreast of the area I’m not sure.

Lanarkshire has its horrible parts like anywhere else but it’s not that bad and it’s well enough connected for Glasgow also.

Area immediately around Hamilton west train station is also ok. Some nice flats there as well.

Quarry st would be his best bet I think unless he’s looking at one of the more upmarket ones.

They tend to be old tenement buildings.

A local estate agent would be able to advise you I’m sure.

Im guessing its for the UWS, Hamilton is mostly a good area Burnbank is the roughest part from what I have heard (imagine council house stereotypes)

Uddingston/Bothwell are beautiful but more the poshest part so very expensive
  • I don't know Hamilton well, but would echo the Bothwell area, which is very close by. Uddingston is lovely, too, but very expensive. I find Hamilton quite an odd place; I didn't expect to find a motor village containing showrooms for Mclaren and Aston Martin there.

I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!

To be honest I'd be surprised if there would be much student accommodation in areas such as burnbank. Funny how we see things differently. I think Uddingston is a pretty ordinary place. Bothwell would be expensive. Motherwell might be an option, Hamilton is like anywhere else. Good bits and not so good bits. I wouldn't suggest someone goes to Bothwell instead just because Hamilton has some rough parts. Unless they have plenty of money to spare. I think you would find a decent flat in Hamilton without too much trouble.

They didn't say student accomodation but I guessed it could be wrong and just listed areas that are talked by locals to avoid.

I would assume that given that the mum wants access to facebook pages to keep abreast of the local area that the son might be quite young.

    Plenty of flats on here.

If hes a student Id speak with the uni and if not, one of the estate agents.

Yes, but the uni might know of people who take students in, some people rent rooms out to students and they would certainly know the area
