Camellia container size?

Options
Hello,

I'd like to grow a Camellia × williamsii 'E.G. Waterhouse', which the RHS site recommends growing in a container if your soil is not acidic enough.

Would anyone be kind enough to suggest a container size please?

Also, if there is a site which will tell me this for future purchases, please let me know, as I only have a few bookmarked, and none seem to say this.

Thank you! :)

It will depend on what size your plant is when you buy it.

You may need a smaller pot for a smaller plant and repot it into a bigger plant as it grows,

It is not a good ides to put a small plant in a large pot.

The other thing to remember is that you may use an ericaceous type compost, but your tap water could be be lime rich if your soil isn't acidic, so rain water is preferable.

Another thing to watch out for if using compost rather than soil, is vine weevil larvae in pots. Treatment will probably be necessary.

Altogether a lot of faff, which is why I never grew them in my old garden on limestone!
