MPPI regularly pays out under claims. Most don't have onerous terms and are not an issue. That is in part why most MPPI complaints do not succeed.

However, the minority of plans that do have onerous terms do tend to succeed in a complaint.

Most mortgages in the UK are not put in place by the lender but by brokers, advisers, estate agents. They were only regulated from January 2005. The PPI issue was already starting to be known by 2006 and many stopped retailing it by 2008/9. So, its quite a small window. That said, you can still buy MPPI today as its not one of the bad types of PPI.

How many threads do you propose starting on this subject? This is now your fifth thread basically asking the same questions (and getting the same answers).

If you have additional questions, by all means ask on one of your existing threads but please don't post multiple duplicate threads..
  • I’m pleased to say I had the surprise of my life when the postman delivered today!

Barclays have upheld my complaint and sent me a cheque for over £1,600.00.

They said ‘they were sorry’ they had mis sold my policy, and my refund plus interest had been refunded.

Not the result I was expecting after the comments on here about mortgage PPI.

Thanks to all you guys to your help and advice.

The thing to remember about MPPI is that whilst most complaints overall are rejected, the banks are still paying out on a good number. The ratio is probably skewered by the much lower success rate on mortgage brokers/estate agents/advisers.

  • I had a good case I think - I had a separate policy at the time with the trade union I was a member of - so I never needed the PPI policy.
  • To cut a long story short. Went through a claims company for free ppi check a d then after reading these forums realised I could do it myself. One came back with PPI on Barclays. Contacted Barclays myself as I bank with them. Asked could I do check myself. Told didn't need to and they would raise complaint. I said I couldn't complain as I didn't have details so felt I couldn't complain . Was told it's ok as they will get someone to contact me. Asked me did I have any sick cover etc. Told them I am specialist nurse in the NHS for 30plus years. That was all I was asked. Received a letter a few days later regarding my "complaint" to say PPI was on a mortgage I had for 4 years but dated be k 2007. Letter said as I hadn't made any payments there was nothing to refund me with. Thought ok, put letter in bin. Went on my online banking on Friday and found a large sum had been put in my account. Phoned barclays who said it was from them " PPI refund and Interest" and there is a letter on its way to me.
Happy but very confused! Didn't actually complain and after reading these forums thought it was difficult to get a mortgage ppi complaint upheld

It is more difficult but clearly not impossible. Most mortgages in the UK are put in place by mortgage brokers/advisers. They have very very low uphold rates on MPPI. Banks are a bit more scattergun and you see them argue obvious missold cases but uphold cases that shouldnt be. So, its always difficult to call a bank decision.

NHS workers are fine with MPPI. So, that itself is not a valid complaint reason. So, its probably something else that caused them to refund.

  • Thanks Dunstonh. Is being in NHS a valid reason for complaint with loan and credit card please?
