PayPal Negative Balance

Hi.

I’m nearly 200 pounds minus in my PayPal account. They rang me today so I informed her I can pay it off in full in exactly one months time. However she told me she put this down as the promised date, but that she can’t promise as they may sell the debt to a collections agency. This scares me, and the website& the people I messaged online on the PayPal twitter page told me there’s 120 days to typically pay this back. I really need advice or help- I don’t get paid until exactly a month and when I do, obviously I’m going to pay it back in totality. Ive only been in negative for two weeks now, and it’ll be 7 weeks when I pay it back. Please help!

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

I would not panic, debt collection never moves very fast, come your payday, just pay it off, they won’t sell it on that quick, there talking rubbish.

Even if they did it’s no big deal, you simply pay the new owner.

Scare tactics are the norm when you owe money, ignore them and chill out.

We have people on here owe hundreds of thousands my friend, £200 is nothing believe me.

If it were me, I would:
    • Not worry too much :)
    • Contact them by email and tell them when I get paid and when I will clear the balance (making sure the timescale is realistic, that I was not setting myself up to fail!)
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

  • Really?! I’m only 20, I’m a student. I told her when I get paid in a month I’ll pay it totally off and she’s put that down but that she can’t pay promise it won’t be paid so passed to DCAs. ☹️ I can pay it back though and have promised to. Do you really think it won’t get passed to DCAs?

Thank you both. I worry about DCAs. I can definitely pay it completely off then though, that’s the thing. She said she made a note on my account and for me to ring in the next few days to let her know if I can pay anything off before then. I told her that I and no one around me has money but she persisted that I call back in a few days. Will they get DCAs involved before one month from now? I mean, surely not? Especially if I’ve promised a date to pay it!

If they did pass it to DCAs (doubtful) all they would do is send you a letter asking you to pay it.

Debt collectors are nothing to worry about.

Please take a step back, forget about it for now, when you get paid, pay it back, try to be realistic here.

DCA's are not bailiffs, they have no more powers than any other citizen.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I understand it’s just they keep saying I have 7 days to pay back etc and don’t stop ringing me. I’ve told them I can pay 20 on 7th sept and the rest 25th. But they just seem to not care
  • Thank you all for replying. I can’t now forget it as they consistently call, they have my full adress and details :( I told them I can can pay 20 soon and the rest later but they don’t seem to listen! THey said they’re gonna all again Tuesday to see what I can pay then even tho I’ve stated I can’t.
