Non Knee exercise

Regular runner, and normally do a bit of leg work, squats lunges etc...fairly fit, but I've inured a knee and can't bend it much or run so it needs to heal...
What exercise could I do now? Because I'm turning into a fat and pushups, sit ups and dumbell rows aren't cutting it....

Being that moving to get to the exercise itself could be an issue, I wasn't sure if there would be anything suitable to suggest- you could try swimming with your injured leg banded with an inflatable float? You may need a splint though to prevent you from accidentally bending your knee and it would need to be healed enough if there were any cuts or stitches. Swimming on your back (backstroke) or side would be easier to manage than the front crawl but see how you go. Getting to and into the pool would be an issue though.
Other than this, aside from the regular crunches and back extension types, if your not up for upper body work (dumbbells, kettle-bells, press ups etc) your going to really struggle to find anything. There are machines in some gyms that will move your arms like a cycle but not every gym has them and they will only really do what dumbbells already do.0 -

? what is a fat and pushups.
If you are putting on weight because you cannot excercise then eat less due to your change in circumstances.
Excercise is not the way to lose weight (or stop gaining it).
It is indeed good for you but is not relivant for weight issues (very certain exterme situations asside).0 -

Yeah I think its just going to have to be upperbody work, so frustrating waiting for the knee to heal!{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Swimming is the best exercise for knee problems. I had a total knee replacement and was advised by the hospital that I could go after 6 weeks.
I can do everything apart from breast stroke (not advised for TKRs)0 -
Bear in mind that your quad muscles will waste away worryingly fast if they are not being used, I would strongly recommend seeing a decent physio for advice on when and what you can do for your knee.
Injury dependant but..... just waiting passively for it to heal may not be a good idea.0 -

Have to agree. Mine had a knock on effect on the other knee because my gait changed to favour the injury. Wish I'd gone to the GP/physio a lot sooner. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have been wondering about going to see a Dr...but I suspected they may just say rest it.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

I've got arthritis in my right knee (although I've just had an injection with an anti-inflammatory agent which has relieved the pain), but while it was at its worst, cycling really helped, not only did it not make it flare up, it actually eased the pain.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

They may well do if they are not a knee specialist, it could still be worth visiting to rule out anything that needs surgery but you aren't going to get that from a GP. Rest is good up to a point, too much rest just weakens everything and can lead to further issues.
I reiterate my advice of booking in with a decent physiotherapist, not cheap but well worth it.0 -

My Doctor sent me for a x-ray and he also referred me for physiotherapy, the x-ray showed that it was arthritis, and I was subsequently given an injection behind my knee cap which has really improved it. In my last park run it wasn't until after the event that I suddenly realised that my knee had not hurt both during or after the run. The physiotherapist has given me some simple stretches that he thinks will help too.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
