My other half recently purchased a 16 plate fiesta with approx 17000 on the clock.

Quality inspection and VHC check by a Technician
Service if required (which it required as it had never been serviced).

Most cars need an oil and filter change at least every 10/12,000 miles or every 12 months whichever comes first, but not much else would be renewed, just checks.

There is no tax disc now.
You need to arrange your own road tax, as the registered keeper...

And to be further pedantic there's no such thing as road tax! But I think you know what was meant.

Sounds like a main dealership. Probably a common thing for them to find something else to charge for after you sign contract to spend £8k to £11k with them

    thanks for that!

The time to query all this is before buying.

Thing is a few of the issues like air filter and the check engine light popping on couldn't really have been checked in situ

Why agree to pay for this or buy from them in the first place? A car is an expensive purchase for most people yet rather than check things out first it seems common to hand over your cash then worry about it afterwards.

We agreed to pay for it because even factoring the admin charge in it was still reasonable

OP - apologies if this sounds like having a go at you. I would suggest taking the car to a decent local garage and getting it checked over, whilst it would usually still be under the manufacturer warranty the lack of servicing may have voided this (unless it has been done and not recorded in the log).

alas the lack of previous service means the manufactures warranty is no longer valid.

at the moment the car is actually back with them as we made enough of a fuss about the check engine light coming on that they came and picked the car up to "sort it out" although its been a couple of days and we've heard nowt from them.

the master plan is if they don't also do a proper service on the car then we will probably take it to our normal mechanics for a once over.

    thanks everyone for your comments
