RIP Mungo

Just to say I had to have one of my two cats, Mungo, PTS last week.
She was nearly 20 and very frail. She could no longer jump onto a chair and was often very stiff with arthritis (for which she had metacam).
I noticed she was repeatedly going to the litter tray (like every few minutes), but without doing anything. So I took her to the vets.
That particular problem turned out to be probably treatable (cystitis), but the vet said she had lost 1/4 of her body weight and this was a major concern. I had noticed she had gone very bony, but assumed this was due to her age (old people also often go very skinny and bony.).
She said she almost certainly had an overactive thyroid, but could not treat it without invasive blood tests.
Also a rather large heart murmur was diagnosed.
After discussion with the vet about the procedure for diagnosing the thyroid problem, and taking into account the other health problems, I decided the time had come. My husband and I decided some months ago that we would not put 20-year-old cats through any invasive treatment.
She went very peacefully and we brought her home and buried her in the garden.
Her sister and litter-mate Rumple is still relatively fit and healthy (she has had a small heart murmur for years with no apparent ill-effects), can still run and climb and actually seems happier to be a single cat.
So RIP Mungo, and thanks for being such a delight for so many years.

I'm so sorry. Knowing when to let go is the hardest price of pet ownership.0

Sorry for your loss, I know how devastating it is when you lose a pet who was a fully fledged family member. All you can do is try and think of the good times that you had with them, and remember the joy that they brought you, which isn't easy at the time of losing them.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0

That is so true, and I messed that up a bit during my first time, but I don't want to elaborate, because this thread belongs to Mungo.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I am sorry for your loss
As difficult a decision it was you you, take comfort in knowing you did the right thing for Mungo when the time was right.0 -
Your favorite chair is vacant now…
No eager purrs to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run
Ecstatically to meet me.
No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it’s time for feeding.
I’ve put away your bowl, and all
The things you won’t be needing;
But I will miss you little friend,
For I could never measure
The happiness you brought me,
The comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow;
I’m sure there’ll be a place for you
In Heaven’s bright tomorrow…
Four Feet in Heaven by Alice E. ChaseThat sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
