Old Style Daily Friday 24th August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

Bank holiday shopping first thing this morning before it gets too busy in the supermarkets and town. I like to go shopping early in the school holidays because the shops are so quiet until mid-morning.

I’m meeting a friend for coffee later and we are going to see a mutual friend later in the day who neither of us has seen for about four years, so it will be good to have a catch up together.

Thankfully the housework is all up to date and what washing there is can wait until tomorrow. Dinner will be a HM ready meal. I’m not sure what until I have a rummage in the freezer later.

Dumpling I’m sorry to hear that both you and Lee are struggling at the moment. It is a shame that Lee isn’t getting more help from the services. Unfortunately it sounds as if things have got as bad in your area as it has up here now.

TA I’m thinking of you, Mr TA and the family.

Poppy it’s good that you are getting out. Coffee with a friend is always good and anywhere where there is cake gets my vote :).

Nanny we are all thinking of you. Just remember that you may not have anyone to support you in RL but you have lots of friends on here to support you. Xx

Enjoy the New Forest snoozer, it is one of my favourite areas of the country, I’m quite envious.

Lainey I’m another one who always puts a few BH treats in the shopping. :D.

Have a good a day everyone.

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I've had a few hours of sleep but patchy sleep so at 2.30 I gave up. At this rate, I will become nocturnal or perhaps over time my sleeping time will move gradually and become like other people's.

Had a nice day yesterday, went to take a card and roses to my friend on her birthday and came home with food from her allotment. Did some shopping on the way back but I will need to venture out at some point today.

House is relatively tidy (for me, I have low standards) but bedlinen needs changing today plus a bit of hoovering. It is getting more challenging to keep on top of the washing mow that we are getting rainy days. Things are drying but need airing indoors and the space is limited. I think I got a bit spoilt by the lovely sunshine. However, grass verges and parks are recovering well now, and the showers clean up the pavements.

I hope everyone has a good day and am thinking of all those who are struggling with their own health or the health of others.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Sorry your DM is unwell again Gers, hopefully the ABs will work their magic quickly.
Hugs to those not feeling too good, hope things pick up for you soon.

I spent yesterday evening stripping wallpaper from DDs living room, the grey flowery stuff came off really easily only to reveal a rather dull beige affair! Anyway, one wall done, the others are painted wallpaper and will be somewhat more difficult to shift I fear. Back again after work today (the house is only 5 mins from school) for another go. The plasterer has finished 3 ceilings so there is progress. Not sure they can actually move in on Sunday as planned but there's no hurry yet.

RR - how is your DD getting on?

More showers due today, hope they aren't as long as yesterdays!

    Happy Friday, take care. XX

    Morning all.

I'm up and almost ready for the plumber, just need to get dressed. Last night I cleared out the cupboards under DMls double sink. What a selection of bottles, jars and packets some of which must go back to the 80s. Everything now on the kitchen table and the kettle moved across the room away from the sink area.

Camelot - what a lot of work! Scraping wallpaper is a horrible task. You're a great mum!

I'm off to get some breakfast. Happy Friday to everyone.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light blue sky with sun now making an appearance, air much cooler and fresher. Dry'ish underfoot although it looks like we've had some rain during the night.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly to see if he wants to go for a run this morning. He'll come with me to do the food shopping first thing.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, broc, asparagus, green beans, peas and gravy. I had a fresh peach and f/free yogurt for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure but it will be quick and easy - menfolk will have chips and something. Mine will be either fish and veg, jacket potato and salad.

Yesterday I wasn't overly productive, went to town first thing after taking the car to the garage, passed the MOT thankfully, then on to the meeting/training at work, after which I do feel slightly better about work and the coming months. Nothing is set in stone at present but feel there's more positives than I first thought.

Today all the the normal chores and "to do" list, but must do the ironing as I need uniform for tomorrow and shirts for next week but it's a short week.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks. My input is pretty dismal these days but I am trying to read along when I can. NAN ((HUGS))

Mr TA is going downhill so fast and it is getting increasingly hard looking after him. It's far from easy trying to keep house & home, body & soul, together whilst looking after a poorly loved one. The OT came yesterday after I had to cancel the last appointment when he was in hospital. There is an electronic contraption being fit on the bath next week which will help with bathing or showering. Currently I am giving him a bed bath every morning which is not ideal but better than nothing.

This morning we have the hospital transport coming around 8.30 for the trek to Leeds. So must get myself ready next and then Mr TA to sort out. Just hope it doesn't arrive early as it's hard work getting him going, in a morning especially.

Have a good day all if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care one and all. xx

    Morning :)

TA I am so sad to read your post no words are ever going to make this better for you so i wont try. Just know that you have lots of love out here and I only wish I could do something real for you.

Everything in my world seems mundane compared so i will keep it brief

Throwing it down here with yellow skies so no let up coming. Wont bother with a wash try again tomorrow

No real plans I am going to not venture into email and have a weekend off apart from an evening shift today.

Have as good a day as you can

Nice bright day here although I can feel autumn peeping round the corner, no washing to do today it can wait till tomorrow.

Cleaner coming today :D I shall wait here for her to make sure she can get in (the front door can be tricky if you don't know how to use it) will then go over to dd's and collect her and we are going to do a food shop, she needs to do a big shop as they have not got a store cupboard in at the moment.

Camelot she is getting on ok thanks luckily for them the house is painted all over (no wallpaper) and is a neutral cream so they can live with it for a while, the only problem is a slight smell of nicotine lingering in the house, (Floss we have done the bicarb thing on the carpets) its just a case of washing everything down, walls windows paintwork etc and airing the house, it will get there in the end, my house is a lot cleaner and tidier
though :D and I have gained more storage for my bed linen and towels etc, but I do miss her. xx

Going to get something for dinner while we are out, I might nip and get the M&S meal deal which is a treat but not as expensive as a takeaway.

TA I am thinking of you often and hoping you are coping ok, please speak to your GP or someone who can arrange help for you both xx

Right best get on have good days all xx
  • So sorry Mrs TA thinking of you and the family.
  • Good morning one and all,

I've returned from Aviemore where I deliberately went off the grid. The signal is poor up there as one is surrounded by the Cairngorms and so I took that opportunity to tune out for a week and spend time with family. A lovely and eventful week, including horse riding, go-karting, badminton, going to the gym, going long walks with the dogs, golfing, swimming, eating in nice pubs and restaurants, visiting the wildlife park (and seeing the famous polar bears) and much more. It was really nice and the batteries are well and truly re-charged.

We were staying in a chalet, which was paid for by my parents, so I paid my way with everything else. Unfortunately I'm not blessed with a salary which allows for many luxurys but I wanted to make the most of the trip. With a week till payday, I'll need to be careful on spends.

Back to the grind now. Been to the gym this morning and now sitting in work, about to get a coffee and play catch-up.

The Girl From Work is coming over to mine tomorrow, which I am looking forward to it. The week away allowed me time to gather my thoughts on it all and I think I'm ready and open to start a relationship, but still, I'll take baby steps.

TA - Sorry to read that things haven't been improving of late with DH. You're a real trooper and your devotion and loyalty is truly admirable. You know we're all here for you. Even if it's just to get things off your chest.
