Scanner or All-in-One printer?

Why are most scanners the same price or dearer than many All-in-one printers?
Do they scan better than the scanning element of an All-in-One? Why should anyone buy a stand alone scanner?
Should I not just buy a printer?

i dont know but if you look at the details online they usually say what resolution they scan at and the higher the better. if a seperate has better quality then the question to ask yourself is do you have the room and the money for seperates.
i dont know if it will work here but below is a photo i scanned on a hewlett packard c5280 all in one recently. it was taken in 1999 on an old film camera bought in the early 80's.

Off topic - but where was the photo taken? Looks familiar!Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

hi,
the photo was taken from near john ruskins house(brantwood). it is of the view across coniston water towards the old man of coniston with the village below. it was an awesome evening. photos and even video can never quite capture the true magic of the moment.0 -
It's like having a mobile phone with a camera in it. It might take okay photos of nights out or whatever, but you wouldn't use one to photograph your wedding!
An all in one printer won't scan pics etc as well as a separate scanner (usually). And the printer won't be top spec either.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

I recommend a separate scanner - you don't "have all your eggs in one basket", as you would if the printer/scanner/copier goes faulty.
Also - be honest - you don't use the scanner every day, even if you use it to scan "biodegradable" thermal receipts, like me! Therefore, I specifically recommend the Canon LiDE ones, as they are excellent quality and are powered via the USB connection. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I've had an HP PSC for several years
have never had a problem with it, print costs and speed are reasonable
it does depend what you want from the features - also, how much space you are prepared to devote to the hardware0 -

yeah, it is one of the photos i have that i am most happy with. not because of anything to do with the photgraphy but because of the great view i captured with the sun rays coming through. i got it blown up to 30 by 20 as well and it has been on my bedroom wall ever since.0
