I am thinking of uploaded some short videos to Youtube but wanted to learn a bit about video editing first.
I see Movie Maker was pretty good but sadly is no longer supported and isn't even available with Windows 10
What other free options are available please ?
Eventually I may opt for a paid editor, but as a starting point I may as well try one of the free editors first.
Any suggestions please ?
thank you

Would be interested to hear from people who do use other free or 'budget' software.
I've used movie maker and also some of the more professional level software in the past. Thats often overkill and over complicated for what I need as well as priced quite high.
I like the simplicity of movie maker but would sometimes like something with slightly more features...0 -
I would highly recommend Davinci Resolve, especially for people who are already familiar with the basics of video editing.
It's free, and hugely capable, being the result of the merger of two products (one for editing and the other for compositing).
The only real downside is that it needs a powerful machine to run on, otherwise it can get a bit jittery.
There are lots of well-made tutorials on various features on YT.

AVS4YOU video editor 8.1 is easy/simple to use but has very advanced features and supports virtually all formats. The audio track(s) can be edited separately and this is important being often the area most forgotten but equally as important as the pictures!!

It is part of a whole suite of programs but (from memory) individually free to download single parts of the suite.
I appreciate the requirement for easy use as, although a former professional video editor, I find some programs certainly not the easiest to use when one really ought to be concentrating on the edit, not the tool.0 -
I have Windows 10 and use Movie Maker, if I worked out how to install it I am sure anyone else can!0

I use Windows 7 and OpenShot.0
