A superb idea that I have picked up on one of the threads recently and have shared with mi SIL is to store soup in the freezer in plastic pint milk bottles.

I used to do that when I had a chest freezer and it worked really well and the bottles were dead easy to stack. No I have uprights I have to use the expanding bags, but I try now to make just enough soup for a couple of portions so I don't have the storage issue. My philosophy on plastic is that presently we have little choice, but if I can give each plastic container another use in life, even if only once, then I will be using just half as much. I am dehydrating a lot more this year and the goods will then be stored in glass, cutting out the need for plastic packaging and the energy to keep food frozen.
