use less, save money & plastic

Another way to use less shower gel or liquid soap is to decant it into a bottle that has a pump. Not the ones like Carex type pumps, they have a wide nozzle and are wasteful. No, either, something like a Molton Brown bottle or a bottle bought as a soap dispenser that usually has a fine stainless steel nozzle. I also do it with shampoo, it lasts a lot longer because you're not just squeezing a load out of the bottle. My husband used to get through a bottle of Vosene every 6-8 weeks, now it lasts at least twice that, same with liquid soap, much less wasteful.

I just use a bar of soap, it comes in a recyclable cardboard box.
  • Yep soap is far better and lasts ages if you let it dry out. You can get a 4 pack of soap for around the same price as a bottle of shower gel. We also use shampoo and conditioner bars now too.

I've just always been aware of how much I'm using - and I've cut it down to "the bare minimum needed to do the job", which is very little.

    For shampoo, I get through about 2 small bottles/year - and I wash/rinse twice.

    Yes, I enjoyed that thread.
A superb idea that I have picked up on one of the threads recently and have shared with mi SIL is to store soup in the freezer in plastic pint milk bottles.

Hubby uses bars of soap and must admit I hate the stuff, so unhygienic - shower gels for me (and most bottles are £1, so it's cheap enough).

It is cheap enough for the likes of us ... but some people had their head screwed on the wrong way and pay a little more.
