We have 2 poms both with attitude problems! They both follow me around and are never nasty to me. but they hate other people, especially children.
Also have a puppy who lives now with my mum, shes just as crazy!!!!

i rescued Both dogs, but have had them now for 8 years. and they have a very good live as i treat them like my kids. i have to take them everywhere with me, as they wont stop barking if i leave them, and next door isnt to happy

I have a Pom - she sounds just like yours. Follows me everywhere and if my DD sits next to me and dares to give me a cuddle she barks till she can be picked up and promptly sits inbetween us :rotfl: I met a lady in Scotland who kept Poms and she explained that Poms always 'latch' onto one person but they are also fickle so if their favourate person is not around they will choose somebody else  mine was fine with kids up to a few months old but goes for them now if they try to play with her - hence I dont let her near young children anymore. Sorry I cant offer any more advice as I tried taking mine to dog obedience and she was the worst behaved dog in the room - I gave up after she started pooping and peeing 6 times a session ( 1 hour ) honestly you wouldnt believe such a small dog had so much in her but I took it as a sign
I did start a thread on here a while ago about her behaviour and I was advised to take her to a dog behaviour specialist.
Good luck:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
sorry i have chihuahuas so i dont know all i can suggest is keep introducing them to new people and situations to socialise them more, ur poms are adorable though:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

Poms like to be top dog and try and dominate you, you need to be firm with them which is pretty hard as they're too cute.
Mate has a 7 month old pom and he's either too cute for words or a pain in the 'arris.0 -

Hi chattycathyuk,
I have a Pom, who is 2 and a half now. We've actually managed to get him quite well behaved.
Our trick was to let our pom know who is boss...don't get me wrong, we spoil him rotten which is why he sometimes ignores us when we call him, but like scheming_gypsy says, they are so cute, you normally tend to forgive them...
However, if my dog does anything bad, such as barking at a guest or not doing as he's told then we would discipline him by putting him on a stall then leave the room for a minute or two (make sure noone gives him any attention during this time and he cannot see you). The first few times we did it, he jumped off the stall, but we would normally give a loud clap and shout "NO!" then put him back on the stall. We would normally keep repeating this until he stayed on the stall and did his "time".
Now when he's naughty and we put him on the stall, he knows to stay seated quietly even though he is able to jump off the chair. Works a treat...try it!
btw, the first few times you do it, your dog is likely to bark a lot and whine, but overtime he will learn that this doesnt speed anything up, and if anything, increases time spent on the "naughty chair". Eventually your dog will sit quietly finishing his sentence so he can come play with you again.****************************************currently love love love:

We had a pomeranian, up until she died in July, aged ~15. She came to us aged 7 as a rescue dog, and generally spent 8 years as a pampered little sod.
My grandmother (now 86) has had poms on and off since she was a young woman, probably about 5 in total, as well as other breeds. Her one bit of advice with them is that you have to "master" them in the first week, or they have mastered you.
Poms always seem to think that they are human, and ours would sort of yowl (I really don't know how to describe it, it's not howling, barking or whining) when we talked too long and ignored her, to join in the conversation. She hated being picked up, likely as a result of having been manhandled by small children in her previous home - however, that soon changed when she could no longer be bothered with the stairs in her own age - she would bark at the bottom / top of the stairs until someone carried her! She also had a strange hate of our neighbours dog, who looked like an Alsation with it's legs chopped off!
She was a lovely character, by all accounts, but she could be a manipulating, greedy little sod. When she died, I actually found myself missing her barking.

I think just like humans poms can all have different temperaments. I haven't found ours to be moody in the least, always wanting cuddles and playing, my daughter has fallen in love with them too and now is the proud owner of a 4 month old puppy called Poppy. This is a picture of my puppy, Phoenix with his sister Aurora.0
