Issue of penalty charge while away on holiday

Has anyone had my experIence: I returned after 21 days holiday to discover a penalty charge notice. I had been unable to pay the lower 14 day charge, having been away, and so the charge had doubled. I have written to explain this to the local authority parking team and to ask that I be alo We’d to pay the lower charge but have heard nothing back.
Do I have a leg to stand on? Is being away on holiday valid?

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.
