Am I a first time buyer

I think i know the answer to this but am hoping for a different one

I am currently buying my first home with my partner who is definitely a first time buyer. However some time around 2002 i co-signed a mortgage with my mum when she remortgaged our house, and the mortgage was payed off 2004 ish. I am not 100% sure what i signed and cant find the paper work now but it was some kind of mortgage documents with me confirming my earnings .

My mum had the property in her name before 2002 it was not a new property to us.
i changed my name 2006 (not relevant as it dosnt change the answer)

in short am i liable for stamp duty?

Maybe, maybe not. You really need to find out how the house with your mother is/was owned. Do you, or have you ever had an interest in the property? Was a Deed of Trust ever drawn up to say who owned what?

What kind of mortgage was in place, were you a guarantor or were you also a legal owner of the property?
  • I can’t find mortgage paper work don’t think I can remember who the provider was, I guess I can get a copy of the title deed from 2002 from the land registry.

If my name is not on it I guess that’s enough
