This is definitely not right if you find an unauthorised transaction on your credit card you ring the credit card company and tell them

they then block the card and investigate on their own

you should not have to do a thing I have no idea why they are asking you to investigate it is definitely not the way it should work
  • I agree unless it’s the bank have a very good reason to believe it’s not fraud.

Could be the OP has spoke to someone who has fobbed them off though. Call centres are like that.

They have confirmed that my postcode was used. They will need to speak to their colleague before issuing a refund.

My question is now... How is this possible? How can someone have paid with my card online and have used the correct postcode (and maybe more) when my card has never left my home?!

Should I report it to someone? Even if I do get the refund and even though I have frozen the card, someone definitely fraudulently used my card which I find worrying.
  • If someone has hacked your card details it’s not implausible they got your address details too.

sounds like you’ve done what was asked if you and the bank should now decide the next course of action. Not sure why they need to speak to a colleague about it though.

Who was the merchant if you don’t mind me asking?

Would that suggest an issue within MBNA itself though? The merchant is Last Minute Musicians
  • Card details are usually hacked through a website that’s been previously used by the account holder.

From the merchant you’ve quoted that would seem an odd transaction to be fraudulent (no obvious benefit for the fraudster). On the other hand you’d be unlikely to forget such a purchase as it’s so specific.

I’m sure you’ll get it sorted one way or the other and if it’s fraud then you’ll get a new card and refund.

Thanks, like I said in my initial post though, the card had never been used before. I will cancel it as soon as I've received the refund. I don't think the merchant are fraudsters either.

It may well be a test transaction.

Banks are a lot more on the ball when it comes to small test transactions.
  • last minute musicians is a legit company, a lot of musicins use this site to get gigs in their area... they should have a record of "your details" and where the singer/performer went to/what gig they did. may be useful to give them a ring or send an email. wont take much of your time, especially if you say they used your post code too?

Yep did that. The person needs to wait until their colleague is back and discuss it with them before giving me any personal information.

Once I have the information... What do I do with it?
