False claim on my insurance. Help!

So I recently found out some reprobate has cloned the plates for my Fiesta ST, got into an accident (which has caused a claim against my car), and had their vehicle impounded by the police. Despite the claimant stating the plates fell off revealing the real plates underneath, my insurer is still keeping the claim open, denying me a new quote and isn't closing the claim yet even though I have had no involvement in this whatsoever. I wasn't even informed of this and now I have a 'stolen' claim against my policy even though it was bought from Available Car, from the brother of the previous owner, complete with all the paperwork to prove its legitimacy.
My insurer who is proving to be no use at all is GoSkippy whose underwriter is Eldon Insurance. Both of them have treated me like a criminal essentially and aren't doing anything to help. What's especially annoying is the fact they didn't even tell me about the claim, which happened over 3 months ago. I'm going to call again to try and grill them as to why this isn't sorted, especially when the police have the vehicle in question.
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of BS? What can I do in this situation? My renewal is due in 2 weeks so at this rate I'm going to have to pay more for something which isn't even my fault. I've only had the car for 4 months and with all the safety concerns and this BS in particular I really have to question whether it's worth it sometimes

That was quick - what happened in just 3 hours to get it all sorted out?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I'm so sorry for not updating this properly! I completely forgot about doing this.
Basically I called GoSkippy repeatedly as I wasn't happy at all with what I was being told. I knew the police had the vehicle in question, that the plates were reported as cloned at the scene, that the car wasn't even the same model as mine, that the location was nowhere near me, and of course that I was innocent!
After badgering them about how none of this made a shred of sense, they saw where I was coming from and removed the claim. Pretty sure I had to request this twice as well so I made sure to get written confirmation from them and to check with my new insurer about the status of my claim history.
I would encourage anyone in a similar situation to get as much information as possible out of your insurer and start quizzing THEM on the matter. At the end of the day if you're not the guilty party, you shouldn't have to pay for it.0 -
Didn't even know this was a thing until I read your post, lol. Just out of interest, I went on the Government website for registered number plate suppliers in my postcode area - it listed 10 of them in a small area of a small town. God knows how many there are in big cities like Birmingham etc. From a quick read of number plate cloning, this is a domain where the Government needs to tighten regulations.0
