Sky auto contract renewal

Hello,
So I signed the contract for Sky broadband on 4th of October 2016. The contract length was 12 months. Last year when the 12 months have ended I haven't heard anything from Sky broadband and my monthly price haven't increased I was still receiving the discount. Everything was fine until now. Now I can see that my monthly price will be increasing from November. It has been almost two years now. I was just wondering if Sky can automatically renew the contract without talking to me? And what if they realise that they made a mistake. Can they ask me to pay for all the months that I have been receiving discount after the contract ended?

Your out of contract so they won't be renewing it for another 12 months simply rolling it on month to month. This is common practice.

You know what it's going to cost so if you don't like it cancel it.

I completely understand that I can cancel if I want to. But I'm really curious why I was still getting same discount even after my contract ended?

If you want to keep it, phone them up and haggle.

It's probably tied to Sky Tv - is it?

If not, have a look at the moneysaving email in the morning and see what BB offers are in that - you may be able to cut the cost in half or more.

You had a deal for 24 months with a 12 month contract, this is normal so don't worry they wont ask for any extra money for the last year.

Yes you can phone and cancel it, they will haggle with you and you will get another deal.

Auto-renewing contracts for phone and broadband are now banned.

In my case, I got a letter from Sky at the end of my contract, telling me that they would be renewing my special offer deal for another year, but I was not locked into a new 12 month contract. I am free to leave whenever I want. But if they keep giving me the discount, I'm in no hurry to do so.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

12 months wasn't the contract length, it was the minimum contract length. You have an ongoing contract with them, just within the minimum period you usually can't cancel without penalty (paying a early termination fee or being liable for their losses) unless they breach the contract or try to unilaterally vary the terms.
