But it would be expected, as a defence in civil court, that a double yellow line on private land has the same meaning as on the public highway without having to consult the exact terms and conditions of the particular location. Anything else would likely be an unfair and unenforceable contract term (as all the parking bullies seem to rely on the contract you entered into by entering their patch).

    Would it?

You could apply that logic to disabled parking being free in private car parks like council ones, or DYL's but it doesn't, and as you admit PPC's rely on the contract they say you entered into by parking.

Why not try your theory out in a Parking Eye car park and see if it works, I guarantee you will have your day in court to prove your case ?

Are all council car parks free ? Government advice for blue badge holders is to check the terms and conditions of parking.
11.1 Off-street car parks (such as supermarket, hospital or local authority car parks) Off-street car park operators should provide parking spaces for disabled people. However, it is up to the car park owner to decide whether badge holders can park free of charge.
Do not assume you can always park for free.

All I was saying is that it is another angle for contesting if it gets as far as court. Consumer contracts must be fair and if they do not want you to stop they should use the correct signage and not one that has a generally accepted different meaning and rely on the small print of the contract.

I think we are all singing from the same hymnsheet here, but in different tones!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Poppycock the OP is talking about private parking T&C's in particular DYL's which the PPC make up their own rules.

Citing the Highway Code in this instance is a complete red herring and you know it!
(Well, that was a bit aggressive...)

I don't think the OP was talking about parking, but rather the meaning of yellow lines on the marked roadways.
