I am looking for some advice for my partner - he had a motorcycle (125cc not sure if relevant) when we first got together. Around 10 years ago the bike died and it has been sat in my garage collecting rust ever since, however he never declared Sorn. At the time he didn't have a fixed address and in the circumstances he was in, the log book was lost and he never received any reminders etc. 10 years down the line and he is desperate for a new vehicle as neither of us drive, but he is worried that if he renews his bike licence and gets a new vehicle he will be heavily fined for this old bike. Is this true? Any help much appreciated.

There is no connection between his licence and any vehicle records, so he needn't worry.0

SORN was introduce on 31 January 1998 so if the bike has not been licensed after that date there will be no penalty.0
