The MSE article on cheap pet insurance is a good place to start research

Decide what insurance cover you want accident, 12 month limit , per condition or lifetime reistaitng vet fees each year.
Lifetime is the best cover but the most expensive.
The Rolls Royce of companies is Petplan but they can bemore expensive
they do not increase your premium of you make a claim which many companies do.
Your premium is based on post code, bred and age of dog. Premiums will increase each year to cover increased admin costs and vet fees.
Beware of cheap policies , they are cheap for a reason and cover may be limited or they will wriggle out of paying out.
Do you want a fixed excess or one with a co-pay. the latter will have cheaper premiums.
A co pay may be introduced when the animal reaches a certain age.
Make sure you read the policy document carefully to ensure you know exactly what you are covered for and any exclusions.
I have one insured with Morethan, and one with NCI. i have previously used tesco but the premium jumped a lot in the second year.
have a look Bought By Many . they previously negotiated discounted rates on the principal of many buyers but have recently introduced their own policies which have several options.0 -
I use and would recommend PetPlan. We have had to make a number of claims over the years and PetPlan have been more than fair when paying these claims. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

We use petplan. Dog was cost free for 4 years and I was wondering if it was worth it. He then took a strange illness, which cost almost £3000 in vet fees, mostly tests for diagnosis. They paid very quickly and painlessly, straight to my bank account.
I'm wondering how long I'll stay though. The price goes up each year, as does the excess. It might be lifetime cover, but they eventually price you out of it.0 -
I have just had a claim refused from Purely Pets, as my policy doesn't cover my cat for dental or gum treatment, the disease he has affects the gums, it was two lines in a 20 page policy document stating this, so my advice would be try to ascertain exactly what you would be covered for before you buy.0

Unless you are very hard up, I don't think Pet Insurance is one of the areas where you should penny pinch.
PetPlan do provide excellent cover and if you want piece of mind, go with them.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
We use More Than premier (£4k pa) and so far it's been really good. Premiums are reasonable & pay out is quick. I'm hoping to increase the benefit to £12k pa when we can afford to.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Check if pre existing conditions, i.e. anything you have claimed for already, are included if you change the policy to one with a higher payout. I t may be considered a new policy, not an extension of the current one.0
