Dumb Scottish Power

Why is SP Dumb meters so incompatible with their system.
Feb. New Dumb meters fitted.
No DD taken on new tarrif from Feb through to July
No bills done February to July
Multiple accounts opened and closed
Why anyone wants to stay beats me.
We are facing technical issues due to which this is happening and we have already escalated this to our digital team.
As this technology i.e. smart is still very much being developed and tested in both our customer’s homes with ScottishPower and across the UK with all suppliers and we are continually developing our systems to adapt to this new technology, which includes ensuring our billing systems are aligned to their smart data.
Our digital team is developing a code to fix this at the earliest to provide our customers a better online experience. As we are in the progress field, we will be fixing the consumption issue in due course.

If they cannot manage with new dumb meters, how do they manage with the smart things?

Just make sure you keep records of the readings from the old meters - should be on a (usually) yellow card tucked somewhere near or behind the meter(s) - and the opening readings from the new meters.
Photos of the readings as well would be good.
Be aware that new meters do not always start at zero reading, they could have started with a few thousand on the clock.

Also keep records of the readings at least once a month and put aside what you expected to be paying every month in a savings account or somewhere so you have it ready to give them when they come knocking.

They don't manage the smart things. Feb last year, I was on their Power Up tariff and had SM installed. They then had to take me off their Power Up Tariff as it was incompatible with their own Smart Meters.
  • Gets even worse, email this morning says they have reduced my Direct Debit to £3 a month yet it has only been collected once since February this year!

PennineAcute - if the Power Up tariff meant that you had to have smarts installed as per the terms and conditions of the tariff, and you had the things installed, it's not your fault they didn't operate as expected.

You complied with the terms and conditions so therefore you should not have been removed from the tariff.

If the new tariff is more expensive thatn the one you were on then a complaint - in writing - would be in order asking to be rebilled as if you were still on the Power Up tariff, but only if the replacement tariff is more expensive.

It's for SP to sort out their own smarts, not the customer's.
  • Third complaint this year to SP submitted last night.

I’m not hold my breath about any fix just yet!

I made a killing out of it anyway, I well made. I kicked off as the Power Up was cheaper than the tariff they were moving me to, they paid me the 12 month difference between the two.

After that, Couple of months later, left SP, and moved to EON as their tariff was around £100 cheaper than SPs.
  • Still waiting what my Dumb meter means to SP! They have gone pass their 5 day limit this morning!

Confusing: You say new dumb meters were fitted, then you post a web chat about smart meters and don't mention anything about submitting meter readings. Have you actually submitted meter readings?

@D_M_E they don't manage with the smart things, they ignore them and still require meter readings to be submitted.

Why do I stay with Scottish Power? I can change to another of their fixed tariffs without incurring a fee which means I can always be on their cheapest tariff and their prices are not really all that bad anyway.

Me too. SP are pants with their SMeters judging by their forum.
