Grooming very Old short haired born feral calico(torrid) cat..a.

Just wanted to say check for thyroid as soon as you can because ratty coat plus weight loss is a key sign. I have a very tricky cat who is now on tablets and her coat is miles better. Being calmer on the medication means she can look after herself a bit better as well.
She is looking miles better already with the new brush and will now let me get to grips with a lot more of her coat than before. She is starting to look way more like herself now, and is pulling bits out herself all over the house...in every room....spreading it about all over the place.
I will certainly be keeping an eye on it. However will not be taking her to vets unless she got worse before assessing the coat once it is free of all matts an unnessesary vet trip is what I want to avoid due to her stress levels. Get coat sorted which should take about 3 more days at a guess. See how she is then, if I think things aren’t right, get vet to come to me to look at her and him tell me if she needs to have a trip in for tests.
The length of time she allows the brushing isn’t really getting massively longer....but the isn’t fighting it, still purring, and walks towards me when she sees the brush.
So far so good.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Zoom groom, the cat version, probably help too. It nice and soft and pulls out the fluff nicely.
does sound as though she needs to see the vet one way or another though0 -

Got one of those, she doesn’t like it at all and won’t stand it :rotfl: but thanks for the suggestion. She’s a picky little miss. Agree on vets front , but as he said not bring her in unless really needed will get him out to her first. She is old bless her, so vets are going to be something she needs now like it or not. It’s just balancing the stress. Last time she went her blood sugars soared off the chart, but were ok when at home.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Update on azzhole cat........
She is looking great, wizzing around house, coat is nearly back to normal.
I think she has spent whole hot summer being a total lardarze in the heat we had in conservatory at utterly stupid temperatures and did absolutely Jack-ziltch to be honest, including any grooming.
Since this and chatting about it I have heard of other people whose cats this summer ended up in a similar state that wouldn’t normally .
Will be keeping an eye though as she is an old girl, but she is so much better, coming up for a groom now with new brush she likes for now.......for 20 secs at a time.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Up-date
Helping her get all the old coat out worked, since the temp has gone down she is back to her old self and has been grooming herself again. She has groomed all last bits out herself which she wasn’t doing properly before. Seems totally back to normal, and I think was just done in with the heat .
She has now put some weight on as eating better now cooler.
Kitty back to normal, panic ( and I did panic) over. :T.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
