Care Work needs more praise

I have a couple of friends who work in the care industry and admire the job they do, they work hard for very low wages and had a lot to contend with they both work in a care home, they have people with various ailments. i.e. stroke patients, dementia patients, behavioural patients, which are all challenging at the best of times.
They regularly say they are hit and pinched and bruised by those they care for whilst carrying out their duties of care, washing, dressing etc.
They often report families who complain about the smallest of things which is understandable as they are paying anything between 1000 and 1500 per week for the care to be provided whether it be funded by the resident or topped up by the family if funds are low for the resident.
Sadly both my friends are planning to leave the industry as they feel their wages of £8 per hr just does not cover what they do.
They both work 50 - 60 hrs per week as staff shortages means they are often coherced into working due to their caring natures.
They often work out of hours and days like Christmas Day, birthdays, and special events they forefeight
They often work 12 hrs a day perhaps finish at 8 at night to start at 8 again the next morning.
They work in challenging temperatures as residents find it to cold to have air condition on as they feel the cold.
I for one admire the work they do and feel there should be some sort of reward as I have noticed recently a lot of companys offering discount to NHS staff and the like, but these
carers get nothing.
I think the sad thing is one of my friends was leaving purely because she loved the caring side of her job but could not cope with the families complaining about little things.
It seems to be a problem where families feel hard done by for what the costs are and carers feel hard done by for the amount of staff to residents and what they are paid for what the do and cope with.
Perhaps this is an industry that needs a lot more support and recognition in what appears to be one of the most difficult jobs around.
