Scottish Gas have reduced my DD and because of this the cashback I receive from my Santander 123 account has dropped below £5 in total whereas before it was over £5 and paid the account fee.

Now I am only getting interest.

I suppose I will have to start using more gas and electricity.:rotfl:

One of the drawbacks of having a smart meter and reducing my usage.

You are still getting the cashback; it might be less than £5.00, maybe £4.81 or £3.75, but whatever cashback is due you will receive in addition to the interest.

If monthly cashback and interest exceeds £5.00 account fee, you are better off.

Using more gas and electriciy is likely to cost you more than your cashback.

Can you not ring SP and tell them to keep the DD where it was, or email them or can it be done in your online SP account - Manage DD or something similar if they have it?

Tell them you don't want to risk getting into debt if they moan.

This is the time of year some suppliers will reduce your DD and then round about Xmas when your consumption goes up because it's winter they'll crank it up higher than it is now.

If you do your own calculations based on your annual consumption rather than in small three month chunks you should be able to decide whether it would be beneficial for to get them to reinstate the original DD.

Take control of your energy and your DD yourself.

I used to be with Scottish Power and given half a chance my DD would have bounced up and down like a yo-yo every three months

If the money is sitting in an account earning a higher % interest than the 123 cashback you are still making more money even though the DD amount is lower. As mentioned, using more energy just to get a bigger cashback is definitely not the way forward...

Scottish Power likes to yo-yo my DD amount around a fair bit, but I always ask them to reduce it. I'm quite good at keeping track of my spending, so even though my account is usually in debit, I would rather the money sitting in my bank account earning me interest, rather than sitting in their accounts while my bills are in credit
