How do you get one energy company to compete on price with another per kWh?
Hi,
I have gone through this uswitch thing and found that I can save £200 on my annual charge but I can see no-where where it tells me how much per kWh each new company will charge for gas and for electricity.
I assumed that I could get a quote for kWh in pence for each gas & electricity and then ring up my current supplier and ask them to compete - a bit like you do with mobile phone prices.
So am I missing something? Doesn't it work like that?
Thanks for any info.

Energy suppliers don't work the same as mobile phone providers. They offer various fixed rates which vary from area to area. They won't haggle unit prices at all.
The best you can hope for is a credit as a goodwill gesture. But don't expect much as you will need to justify your reasons for this credit. Wailing "your prices are higher than xyz" down the phone won't cut the mustard.0 -
Try the Cheap Energy Club on here although all comparison sites give unit rates and standing charges... As for "getting them to compete" with each other, I think you'll find they already do this. One thing I know for certain is they will not just change their rates to suit an individual. Every time you change tariff, you enter into a contract in which the unit rates are stipulated. They either have a tariff which is competitive with another supplier or they do not. They do not pluck them out of thin air on an ad hoc basis.0

If you click on the selected tariff it should show you what the charges are for that tariff - price per Kwh, standing charges, etc.0

You can sometimes get a small lump sum golden hello in the form of a credit, but you can't negotiate unit prices. Some suppliers have 12 million customers, it's not practical. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Uswitch does give unit rates - daily charge and pence per kWh.
Click on "what will you pay" under the price saving, then select to see the calculation in detail - there it gives all of the prices.0 -
