Skoda Yeti Waranty Query

I wonder if anyone could advise. We have a 2.5 yr old Yeti leased through VW leasing/NHS leasing. On holiday recently the diesel glow plug amber light came on. The manual advised that the car could be driven with reduced power, and that we should seek help from specialist garage. We were on our way to the ferry and kept going for 270km. On returning to UK we immediately brought our car to the local Skoda dealership. Two weeks later we have been advised that we will need to pay 2.5k as the maximum allowable mileage is 150km. A new DPF filter is needed. Interestingly the most recent manual advises to 'seek help from specialist garage immediately' whereas our older version does not use the word immediately. We cannot see any reference to the limited mileage.

We are horrified at the thought of paying 2.5k for such a 'young' car which is not ours and will be returned in October!

    I think you have a claim under the unfair terms section of the Consumer Credit Act because the maximum allowable mileage was not communicated to you. You need to check that it does not appear in the warranty policy document - the manual is not a contractual document, whereas the warranty policy document is.

    You might also attempt to negotiate with Skoda on the basis that it was reasonable in your circumstances to carry on travelling and you did deal with the issue as soon as you were able to.

    You will be contractually obliged to return the car without faults, so you do need to get it fixed, but I don't see why this should cost you more than a few hundred pounds.

    I guess you were on the nearer parts of the continent (France?) or Ireland? There's plenty of Skoda garages there. Did you even phone one for advice?



    Driving the car with the fault light on could easily have contributed to the filter needing replacement, rather than being cleanable.

    If the light came on during a journey and the manual suggested it was ok to carry on and seek help later then fair enough...
    If the driver carried on using the car for a few days and then contacted the garage then less so....
    OP seems to be somewhere in between. Hindsight is wonderful but it would have been prudent to call Skoda's helpline for advice.

    Yes, in retrospect, we should've called, but were fixated on getting the ferry in time, getting back to work - the usual pressures. Our skoda garage was very close to port in england, and we thought if we can just get there.....

    Will have a look at warranty document, but would most folks have consulted this at the time?

    Perhaps not but I would have rung Skoda and asked them what to do and if it was safe to drive

    if you do have to pay go elsewhere the parts are around £600 (although you don't say which model yeti) and labour isn't a big job.
    Go to a specialist avoid the dealer, hopefully it wont come to that and they will see you right.
    these company lease schemes are good on the face of it but if you look a little deeper the risk is all for the driver not company to take so in effect you are better off with a private lease, purchase or whatever. I work for a govt agency and the Ts and Cs of our lease make it more attractive for me to buy and run my own car and claim back the 45ppm.

    Probably better of of been economical with the truth about how many km's you drove with the light on.
