How did they get my address? Is it legal?

Parked in a 'private' car park in Windsor recently and bought a ticket for 3 hours. Placed on dash but somehow the ticket turned over when car door closed. Came back to car 2 hours later to retrieve something and a parking attendant was in the process of giving me a ticket. I showed her the 'valid' ticket and she said that as she had already issued the ticket she could do nothing BUT if i contacted the office that they would rescind it. I contacted them the next day to appeal and sent photos etc etc...A week later they rejected my appeal...which i was quite shocked at. I tried then to reply again BUT there is no simple way to reply again and i ended up sending an email to the company which apparently owns it...saying that i was disappointed, was told it would be rescinded, had a valid ticket, would not go through what i thought was a bogus trade organisation AND was happy to go to court to discuss the matter as i felt that i had a very strong case. Two weeks later i get a letter in the post (how did they get my address? i never put it on any email and am very concerned if the DVLA sells this data on...is it legal?) an increased fine from what purports to be a debt collection agency of £160 vs original £60 if pay within 2 weeks. I really want to go to court as i think i have a very strong case, BUT should i just ignore their letters demanding payment or do i need to be proactive to stop more letters coming? and more importantly, does anyone out there think that i am in the right?

Debt collectors in the parking industry are just timewasters
and 100% powerless so IGNORE THEM and read this

NO, YOU DO NOT OWE £160 IT'S THE DEBT COLLECTORS SCAM
  • any company that is a member of one of the 2 trade associations can ask the DVLA for the vehicle's registered keeper , £2.50 a go

PCN Parking Solutions on behalf of UK Parking Limited

I don't see any trade association that they are a member of

Ultimate Customer Solutions, First Floor, Regent House, Hove Street, Hove
These are the 'debt collectors' and have the same address as the PCN Parking Solutions.

I have no intention of paying but still don't know how they got my address (are they a member of one of the 2 trade organisations?)

So the advice is just to ignore...correct?
Also, re my case do i not have very strong arguments in my favour?

    Thanks again all

Not overly litigious, but they do have 6 years to try.

You're in the position of waiting to see if they employ a 'next move' beyond the debt collector stage. See the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #4.

  • Thank you so much...extremely helpful..would have trawled the internet for hours trying to find all this useful stuff.

I am still baffled as to why they are pursuing me because i have a valid ticket..so my case is not simple for them!

Also, can i initiate court procedings to try and put a stop to this or better for me to say that i am happy to go to court and see if they take it further?

Finally, has anyone got a view on the following...."the ticket needs to be clearly displayed"...my ticket was clearly displayed in the window...just turned over...i know it sounds pedantic but surely it would stand up in court?

    Thanks again

    Don't engage with them

As advised, ignore everything now except court correspondence or a lbcca

Welcome to the scam .....these cowboys will ticket
    even their own mother

You have the ticket, you paid .... that's what a court wants
    to see and hear.
If it went to court, they would be considered as timewasters
and the courts are very fed up with the parking scam

No point in you starting proceedings, just follow through
the way the plebbies work and when you win, claim
    your costs against them

You will get letters from nutcase debt collectors
    which you ignore
