Not allowed to pay the remaining balance of student loan

Got a letter today mentioning that I am close to repaying the student loan.

It gives me a choice to pay the remaining balance in full or pay the remaining balance by a monthly direct debit. I chose to pay the remaining balance so I called up. The advisor mentioned that I'm not allowed and can do it it by a monthly direct debit. I took up that offer to pay by direct debit.

Why am I not allowed to pay the remaining balance in full?

Very strange. My hubby paid his over the phone with his debit card. How much do you owe?

What type of loan is it? Plan 2 says that you can switch to DD if the loan is due to be repaid within 4 - 23 months, perhaps only if it's less than 4 months to repayment they allow payment by card.

It's a plan 1 loan.
