Old Style Daily Tuesday 21st August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

I had a good time yesterday at the care home visiting my mum’s friend. The lemon drizzle cake went down well and she has some left for today. The home was lying on a small party for her at their evening meal time and kindly invited me and her other visitors to stay and join them. It was really nice and she thoroughly enjoyed her day.

Today I will get a load of washing done. The forecast is for dry cloudy weather, so hopefully I will get it dry on the line.

I will wander down to the supermarket later for a few bits, and then walk home through the park and stop for a bit of people watching.

I’ve got a lamb shank out of the freezer and will put that in the slow cooker later for dinner. It looks quite big so will probably do two days.

TA I hope thatyou have heard from the Macmillan nurses and that some help for you is being put into place. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Have as good a day as possible everyone.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I just missed Steve going off to work this morning as I slept in till 6. I was up late waiting for Phoebe to come home from a party and she eventually came home just after 1 so I think I will need a nana nap later :D. She had a good time and came home safe and sound so I didn't mind staying up.

After their disasterous exam results, Phoebe and Lilly have to make some tough decisions about their future. Lilly has to rethink which A level courses she can do now and Phoebe needs to find a job rather urgently. She is still doing casual work at a local cafe but that is not going to be enough to live on. I have advised her to go and sign up with a few employment agencies in the area but she hasn't made any move to do that yet. I think a kick up the bum is needed :(.

Lee has been wanting to cook a lot more so we made more pasties yesterday and I taught him how to make trifle which went down really well with Steve :D. It is just burgers for tea tonight so I think I am going to get him to try and make JackieO's recipe for melting moments. My friend is coming over on Wednesday so it would be nice to have something tasty to offer her with a cup of tea.

Speaking of tea, the kettle is calling me so I will just send hugs out to all who are worried or poorly, especially the TA's, poppy, snoozer and csarina xxx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

Cloudy and dull here this morning but I've put the washing out - time will tell! Ironing done, just need to put it away.

Work yesterday was the busiest I've ever known it, stayed late to try to chase folk up for various forms, hope they show up today. Most of the school are out for a trip today so I should have time to catch up a bit.

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy, overcast but humid, dry underfoot. I have a load to peg out on the line, which I will do in a mo.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work also, DS2 still in his pit, I'll get him up shortly - he'll want to either go for a run or catch a lift and go to the gym.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken portions, mash, carrots, broc, green beans, peas and gravy - mine was the chicken no skin, mash no butter or milk, plain veg and sin/fat free gravy, I had a peach with f/free yogurt for dessert. I'm a bit cheesed off as the weight isn't really moving, and other than having wine (which majority of it is allowed) the weight isn't moving. I've really cut back and am just eating mainly veg and salad with different sorts of protein, either plain baked fish, chicken etc - I've stood on the scales this morning and mine weigh differently to class one's but don't think I've lost anything. I'm thinking I may not be eating enough. We'll see. Dinner for the menfolk tonight will be fish, chips and beans/peas, I'll be having baked fish and veg after hairdresser has been and I've been to get weighed, which I'm not looking forward to.

Work yesterday again was a nightmare, the cash up was out and we struggled to balance it but we did in the end, we still have major technology problems and customers have to wait to see someone to help them and that causes problems ..... we're not getting very much back up - so basically are being left to get on with it.

    We'll see what today brings.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning folks.

That care home sounds lovely HH.

Dumpling - trifle! Haven't had one for ages, now it's in my head.

It's dull here too though it feels warm'ish again. Last night I emptied out the two bags with my potato crop in. Another disappointing time, last year the weather was far too wet and this year it's been far to hot. There's about 2 or 3lbs.

I've got a pile of clothes to take to the CS and a bag of books for a colleague. Just gently getting rid of unwanted stuff...again.

Now I wish everyone a happy Tuesday, special thoughts to the TAs.

Good Morning everyone a bit cloudy at the moment here on holiday but not cold .My DGS henry put a pedometer app on my phone so we shall see how many steps I can manage today Yesterday I did 7,560 which was pretty good for me as I don't walk long distance much now and he said if we set it not too high then slowly increase in a little bit at a time you won't notice it :) tell that to my achy muscles this morning :)But I don't mind really its a bit of fun and hopefully healthy.
We did get a decent haulof blackberries from yesterdays walk as well.

Today we have my son-in-laws Mum and step-dad arriving for the day They live in Wincanton in Somerset where they moved about two years ago so they will notice how much Henry and Mikey have grown at least The other two lads aren't here at the moment. Jack won't be here until Thursday, when he arrives with his sister Katie ,her OH Tom, and baby Erin, and Ben is working for the rest of this month in Norwich doing some relief care work for a family.

My son-in-law and his Mum aren't that close but my DD kept asking her to come over at lest for a day as the boys should get to see their other Grandma. Granny Linda is probably the most unmaternal lady I know :) but she is their Granny, although she prefers to be called Linda (she's only two years younger than me :)) takes all sorts I suppose . I am totally different being a very hands-on Granny.

Tomorrow DD is taking the boys sea-fishing in the morning so fingers crossed they may catch something for dinner :)They did last year and it was delicious.

Dumpling I hope you enjoy making the melting moments they are so easy to knock up and get eaten as quickly as they are made :):)

We have an Aga cooker at this holiday house which is nice, but golly it takes ages to heat up, and even longer to cool down.

My son-in-law Simon made a gorgeous buttered chicken curry last night and there are some left overs which have gone in the freezer for when Jack arrives to stay as its his favourite.

Hope everyone is OK and Mrs TA can get some help organised for her and her OH McMillan are brilliant people, not only for the patient but for their families as well.
<<hugs>> to all those who are in need of one, my thoughts are all with you at this difficult time.

Nelski stick of rock and fridge magnet are secured :) just have to find a post office that's open :):) quite rural where we are staying :)

    have a good day chums

    Morning :)

Jackiemum :j:j:j Really excited now thank you ma you're the best. 7560  thats going some. Don't overdo it though you still have the rest of the week. I have had my watch set for 3000 whilst my hip recovers and I love having the target there to beat. Lazy Saturday I did 942 though....now that is shocking lol

Had a really good book club last night. The girl who hosted made so much effort and we even had cake made by her daughter and her husband fussed round us all and made everyone so welcome. Not sure we discussed the book at all really but we caught up on each others lives and ended any global worries over a potential prosecco mountain :o

Back to earth today I have a skype call soon where I have to watch someones presentation for coaching....oh joy gonna struggle to stay awake. Mum visit after that then a conference call at 7.30 tonight....anyone fancy swopping days with me :D

TA in my thoughts as always

Hope your day is as good as it can be

JackieO, Agas are meant to be left on all the time because it does take ages for them to adjust temps. It can e a nightmare in the heat and lots of people have a normal oven so they can switch off the aga in the summer.

I shall be baking today so that I have some stuff to take down to Brian and Laura tomorrow. They are off to the Hebrides for a week, his dad has a cottage on Barra. I shall make some Curly whirly brownies and millionaires shortcake for them.

Steve managed to get his CT scan rearranged for this afternoon so he is not allowed to eat after 9am.

I was very tired yesterday and still am today, I think last week in Edinburgh has caught up with me, I very rarely feel like this any more since i finished work, but I wasn't able to pace myself last week. Talking about steps, I did over 10,000 every day with twice that on two days.
