Hmmm sounds like call centre nonsense. If you didn't already, I would put your request in writing and keep a copy. Should payment go through, it gives you another line of attack.

For a long time after the PSRs came into effect, CCs were wrongly telling cardholders that continuous payment authorities couldn't be stopped because authorisation had already been given to the retailer. Whilst this is not a CPA in a normal sense, the PSRs were not written specifically for CPAs but were drawn more widely to cover the situation where you authorise a payment and wish to withdraw the authorisation prior to payment being made. s67(3) Payment Services Regulations 2017 - though not sure if it's been applied in this context.

Thanks - i will put it in writing, and i will look into Payment Services Regs. I have never come across it before.
