Would you consider setting up a donor account to switch? Just a new current account that you open rather than switch and which you add a couple of direct debits to, then once it’s set up you can just switch that one and keep your main current account as is? It’sa bit of a faff but doesn’t involve as much change as switching your actual account.

  • themadvix- thanks for the advice, certainly something to consider.
Been a day of waiting around for things or people to arrive or to see. Boiler is serviced and requires no parts etc. Forms finally arrived and filled in, just require a copy of a bank statement and a hunt for last years CEA card. Hospital appointment with DD2 was realtively painless.
The great pumpkinathon begins today in the form of a rissotto, tomorrow it will be the main star in a pasta dish, unfortunately it may put in an appearance in a curry the day after and the following day I'm hoping it will be finished and just be a memory. Tilly tidy made, no money spent as of yet, although tomorrow various cheques will need to accompany said forms.

    POSITIVES
    1) There are now only 2 pumpkins left
    2) Good job we like pumpkin
    3) ?

  • I made pumpkin cake with our pumpkin and it went down v well. Perhaps not ideal for weightloss plans. I used this recipe:

  • Viking_mfw that cake looks really yummy and looks like a good candidate for the next pumpkin, thank you. South_coast yes boiler service with no work needed was a positive, not sure why I didn't think of that, blaming old age for having a blank moment.
Been another busy day, one set of forms sent off after I rage walked with loud chuntering down to the PO and back. The walk gave me time to calm down and tackle an ongoing problem. All jobs completed except prescriptions which will be done tomorrow. Food shopping completed and came slighty over budget so came home and altered veg box delivery to accommadate the additional 63p and shaved off another £3 odd.
Had a email from boiler company they are putting up the price to over £200 (cheeky beggars - they sent someone they had subcontracted yesterday instead of one of their own. He was really efficient and quick but I'm paying for the brand and not getting what I'm paying for - bigger fool me, so bye bye ) for the year. Ive been online and found a better price so will phone them up and cancel tomorrow. I think I will transfer the difference to my ISA account that I'm using to put additional OP into.
I won't be repeating pumpkin pasta sauce in its orginal form again as it was mehh, needed something to lift it from meh to mmmm that is something to repeat. I think it needed spinach or kale or the bin or in house the dog's bowl. Miss Giddychops loves cooked pumpkin skin.

    POSITIVES
    1) Been able to access the WorldWideWeb to help us find better deals and keep in touch with loved ones and the outside world
    2) Having time to chew the fat with a good friend
    3) Having the opportunity to listen to bird song early this morning and more importantly it wasn't accompanied in a duet - no cars

    Take care everyone

DD2 is off college today with the same bug as I had at the weekend. Mum was already on her way, so she had her whilst I got various jobs done. Prescriptions are finally in although my first attempt was thwarted as the queue was massive for the pharmacy so decided to go back when I had my flu injection this pm.
I did pop to wilko's as they had their seeds in and it was faboulous, felt like a kid in a sweet shop. Sooooo many seeds. I did have a list but it was at home. I did something similar last year but I went home and went the following week and virtually all the seeds were sold out. So this year I just bought what I thought we needed, some we probably already have, some that I want to try and some because they will look pretty (flowers, although some of the veggie have unual patterns/colours in comparison to convential veg). I think I've probably bought to many, in fact I know I have, I'm a seedaholic. I really need a better storage system, although I read somewhere that someone had used a old DVD storage unit.I was going to go and look at the charity shops for one but I remembered we have a old DVD storage case somewhere and that would do. Whislt in the charity shops (didn't buy anything) I did notice that they too seem to have put their prices, £5 for jumper/tshirt/dress from one of the fast fashion chains. I did find the most 2nd hand beautiful purple wool betty jackson coat which i was very tempted to buy but decided I don't go out enough and all my going out shoes are red. I did managed to find some cards in Oxfam in the reduced box, they look like they've been donated, they cast £1.48 for 3, I normally pay £2 per card so managed to keep my buy nothing new commitment.
So cancelled after a 32 minute wait our boiler care contract and signed up to another saving £2.50 per month, new landline and broadband contract sorted saving £20 a month. Tilly tidy done earlier today. Signed up to vinted and bought the hubbster a secondhand mobile phone case (£3.89) for his new to him phone (refurb), that he got just before christmas.

    POSITIVES.
    1) The hubbster has come in and has started the marmaladeathon making.
    2) Seeeeeeeeds
    3) Tea (celery soup) is provided via the alloment again and mum has made bread to go with it.

Hope DD2 feels better soon. Otherwise it sounds like a great day - especially the seeds, marmalade, homegrown dinner and mum-made bread! 😋

Hello CR :) and ooh, marmalade.  Love the idea.  That's a lot of really good steps you took today - and the seeeeeds were sensible, they go so fast nowadays.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Thanks themadvix/karmacat for dropping by.
DD2 still off. Been a very meh day, found it really hard to get motivated. Well I was motivated intially, dog out, yoga done and then I hit a wall. I have various books to sell and the site kept saying network error........... Completely knocked my duck off. Did manage to sort my seeds it took me ages to sort. I think what really got me down was seeing all the dvds that i'd evicted from the pack, there must be over 200 dvds, all that money we spent and now they are surplus to requirement as they are all on the streamin services we have access to. Did think about selling them but the thought of all the time and effort it will take fills me with dread, but I've set my self the challenge of selling something each week - well try to sell. I'm trying to focus on all the happy hours the kids had watching and rewatching them over and over and over and over and over again. The countless movie nights we had snuggled up on the sofa.
I motivate myself at 4pm to go outside and start chopping up the christmas tree and hopefully will get it up to the allotment to put round the blueberries tomorrow. Sorted tea and lunch for tomorrow. Marmalade is bubbling away and making the house smell delicious always makes me think of paddington.

    POSITIVES
    1) Beautiful sunrise
    2) Family recipes that have been passed down through the generations and is in my fridge ready for lunch tomorrow
    3) Seeeeeeds

Right best go check on the marmalade and then tilly tidy

Marmalade and Paddington, it conjures up such a cosy image.
