i've got orange fruits on mine, i'm sure i've seen somewhere that they are purple when ripe but are unlikely to ripen in our weather, but i'm only a beginner gardener so i'm ready to stand corrected0

Ofcourse they are edible and delicious, some are yellow/green and purple colours (personally, purple are the best type) and also there are diferent shapes.0

I ate one of mine last week. It had only just gone orange. It was really small so I got 2tsp fruit out of it. It was absolutely lovely. Sweet as anything, cold as it was a frosty morning- best of all...........
