Sould my replacement upvc double glazed window have equal sized panels?

Should my replacement upvc double glazed bay window have equal sized panels?

I ordered a replacement bay window. The old one comprised 6 equal sized panels.

I told the surveyor that I want equal sized panels, 6 again. I was advised by him that the replacement frames would be thicker so I was prepared for that. I paid extra to get equal sight lines, both vertical and horizontal, with dummy fronts for the non-opening windows and top lights.

It has just been fitted and something looks wrong! Then I realised the two end window panels are wider, making the 4 in the middle appear too narrow. I checked the contract I signed and the panels are all the same size on that.

It looks wrong, so should I ask the company surveyor to come out and look? It will be a pain to replace. I haven't paid the balance yet.

Comments from anyone in the industry would be particulary welcome. It was not a cheap job. I used a local company that have been around for years.

You will probably find that angle to angle is equal, but only the inner leaves have a post either side, the two end leaves just have a post reducing the width on one side. Timber bay windows, which I am presuming is what came out, do not normally use bay posts.

What exactly does the contract say? Equal facets, equal sightlines or equal sightlines from facet to facet? Equal sightlines would normally be taken to mean there they meet (e.g. so a pane above another pane would have equal vertical sightlines, a pane next to a pane would have equal horizontal sightlines. It looks a lot neater when the windows are leaded.) Dummy casements are the normal way of achieving this.

They won't be able to make the middle facets any wider - the shape of the wall they are sitting on dictates where the bayposts sit (unless the wall is circular). The two outer panes could be made narrower, but the make-up on the inside may look ugly.

Without being able to see the job or paperwork, or being party to any of you conversations before you ordered, I really can't think of a lot else to tell you.
