Parking in two spaces that are assigned to me

Hope this is the right place.

Just a quick question, I've had no trouble yet and I don't want to be a di*k but I think what I have been doing is OK, I just wanted some other viewpoints.

I'm working abroad at the moment, Greece to be precise and my apartment complex has assigned parking spaces. I am on the top floor, in the biggest apartment which means as part of the rental lease/apartment complex, I am assigned a covered parking area which includes two parking spaces next to each other, these are numbered for my apartment and are for my sole use. Other apartments only have one, but that's irrelevant.

Anyway, my car is fairly big, it's only me and my car so I've been parking bang in the middle of the two, just because it's easier and I can. If I didn't and I parked in one space, the other space would remain empty. I feel like as they are both mine, I can park how I like within the two spaces, but I can see if somebody i.e another resident might think "look at him in his flash car parking in the middle"

Thoughts? Just been here two weeks and don't want to rub the locals up the wrong way!

Probably not, unless you're lucky enough to find a poster who's familiar with Greek society. Maybe better to ask your Greek colleagues?

Thanks. I didn't mean specifically Greek society but in general. If we are going by Greek society they park their cars in the middle of the road, over zebra crossings, fully on the pavement on busy pedestrian streets so if we are going by Greek society I'd say I'll be fine!

People would probably think '!!!!' but why would you care? Legally you can, you aren't doing anything wrong, but that won't stop people coming to their own conclusions.
  • This is a money saving forum so I would ask your neighbours if anyone would like to rent the second space

People living in the block will almost certainly know that the top flat has two spaces. Especially if there are handy numbers informing everyone of the fact.

Who knows, the people parking next to you might find it easier to get in and out of their own spaces if you park bang in the middle.

They might not immediately take to Mr Flash Harry with his big car, 2 spaces and the posh apartment at the top but if it wasn't you renting it then it would be someone else.

I am a "nosey neighbour" .... who twitches at such things.... I'd think "Oh look, there's that person with one car and two spaces, parking in the middle; that's what I'd do as it makes sense" - and I'd have you tagged as "clever bloke".

It would stop cheeky bugg4hs from thinking "He's got two, he only ever parks in the left... so I'll tell my visitor to park in the right bay".... because cheeky people do that... which is GRRRR.

I think the only thing that could be your downfall is if the parking permit has a phrase such as "all cars must be parked within marked bays" in which case you may be in breach of the permit by straddling two bays, even if they are both for your flat, and one would remain empty if you didn't, and we all know how pedantic parking wardens can be.
(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)
