iPhone battery charge backup

Not sure quite what these devices are called but I know you can buy a storage device to download extra charge to your phone if it runs out when out and about. Went to London zoo with the grandchildren yesterday and both myself (iphone5) and my husband with an iPhone 8 couldn’t take any more photos by lunchtime as down to about 10% on phones which needed to save for emergency use! Can anyone suggest a storage unit that is nice and portable?

Battery power bank?
Ive got one, cost me £18, it is slightly bigger than my phone but fits well in my small handbag.

Lidl get them in amd may still have them now, unless they have all sold out. Think they were £10

I dont recomment the ones that run off a walkman battery as they dont work.

It's one with an inbuilt battery you want, charge it up at home and you are good for a few days charging phones.

You need a power bank. A 10000mah capacity one will charge both your phones a couple of times before it needs recharging itself.

Get a decent quality one, avoid unknown sellers on eBay as the capacity is often over stated.

Make sure that the power bank you buy will actually charge an iPhone. I've got an iPhone 6+ and some power banks cause a message on the phone that they are unable to charge it. chrisw recommends an Anker. They are certainly among the better quality products.

Mind you amazon want £24 for smaller one which is much more expensive than it is from my memory.co.uk

Can you use the phone whilst the charger is charging it and if not how long do these chargers take to charge up phone.? How long do chargers take to charge up - some reviews have said 12-16 hours

Also last question, do these Anker devices support both iPhone 5 and iPhone 8? My Memory has a compatibility checker on website but not working

I get about 4 charges of my iphone 6S so the higher capacity version will probably give an extra charge.

The pack has 2 USB ports so by using the correct usb cable you can use it for any USB powered devices, including the iphone 5 and 8, android phones, USB fans, torches, whatever.

It's the same as having the phone plugged in to mains so you can use it while its charging and it takes the same time to charge the phone.

I found the charger takes about 4 hours to charge, but I tend to leave it plugged in overnight. It stops charging when full.

Its 'only' 6700 mAh rating which seems quite paltry compared to some on the market but she gets at least two and sometimes three full charges for her iPhone 6s - but in reality she rarely needs more than a simple battery boost at the end of the evening. At a recent day festival, it gave end-of-day post midnight boost to six phones in a very short space of time!

You would get a full charge a couple of times over for both your phones from one cycle. Reading your post, it sounds like you maybe just need something to get you through a few hours until you can plug it in so you might consider the weight and size of whichever product you choose as a factor.

My son has a 24000mAh unit and it is four times heavier than his iPhone.

I have this power bank for my iPhone 7+ and it works well, although it is a wee bit bigger and heavier than the smaller ones. More a handbag one, than a carrying one.

thanks. How long does the device take to charge please and also how long does it take very roughly to charge an iPhone that is nearly empty?
