Alternative to a Coffee Machine

Yes but useful to reset your tastebuds .
Personally having been a coffee drinker way before it became a fashion accessory i would use a cafeteria .
Priced from £10 upwards .
Not as good as a 15 bar pump machine but a dam sight cheaper .0 -
I just stick with a cafetière. It tastes great and is simple to clean.
Some friends recently invested in a Tassimo coffee machine. The (expensive, branded) coffee pods are convenient, but they taste awful -- just as bad as instant coffee.0 -

Aeropress is similar to cafetiere but much less messy - i was always getting into trouble at work for blocking the sink with grounds from my cafetiere but the areopress has no mess just a neat 'puck' of used grounds that can be ejected into any waste paper bin. https://www.hasbean.co.uk/collections/brewers/products/aerobie-aeropress0 -
I find cafetiere coffee too muddy for everyday. For quick cups I've used a Swissgold one-cup filter

Paid a fiver about 15 years ago but unfortunately they are now £19 which is loopy.
I agree Aeropress makes good coffee but is expensive to buy. Easy to use and the filters can be used a few times and are inexpensive. Too embarrassing to use at work though.
Good old simple Melitta filter cone and jug, or the flashier versions by Hario et al are also worth considering.
For a bit more, vacuum brewers like Cona make lovely rich, smooth, 'clean' coffee, but are too much of a faff at 6 am.0 -

Their own website lists it at under £26 but if you shop around you can find an Aeropress for less. I've found them for under £20 delivered after just a few minutes searching, which really is a negligible difference to the SwissGold.
It's subjective what we think something is worth as £22 is a lot for someone on low income while it's money you lose down the back of the sofa for others. When I was looking for one there was none under £25 new, and even secondhand ones fetched £16. I felt that was steep for a little plastic coffee maker. Perhaps that was unreasonable as the Aeropress is a well-designed, good quality thing. (Same guy who invented the Aerobie frisbie, by the way.) Anyway, I lucked out and found a boxed new one for £9 in a charity shop.Tee_Maynott wrote: »I don't get why an Aeropress would be embarrassing to use at work either.0 -

I was wondering why an aeropress would be 'embarrassing' to use at work - the main embarrassment I had was when the thing fell off the top of my mug while I was moving it from the kitchen to my desk as it covered the whole kitchen floor and wall in a mixture of coffee and coffee grounds - took me ages to clear it up with the worry that the boss might walk in at any time and see the amount of mess.0
