Can I change an accaount mid year?

I am a LTD director with two people on payroll including myself.

How easy/difficult for me to change the accountant now without having to wait until the end of the year, as I am very unhappy with him at the moment.

easy, you simply get another one

likely to incur an extra one off cost though for the current year depending on how well you negotiate and how much duplication is required for the new one to catch up on what has already been done to date. Who does your bookkeeping and what system do they use will be the key to that cost

As said above, very easy, you just need to choose the right accountant to move to. Once you find someone who gives you confidence, they'll do the legwork, i.e. writing to your current accountant for clearance/transfer information, liaising with HMRC etc., and bridging the gap. Yes, there is time for the new accountant to spend on the changeover, some charge, some don't, but really, cost shouldn't be your motivating factor - a good accountant you can trust is worth paying a little more for.
