Persistent Scottish Power Issues - Failed Engineer Appointments

Hi All,

Just wanting to gain some further advice regarding some persistent issues I'm having with Scottish Power.

Firstly, since I moved into my new home mid-May there was a pre-payment meter installed on both the gas and electric, of which I wanted changing so I could have monthly bills - Much easier for me.

A few issues with them resolving a debt which was on the meter from the previous occupier, actually realising I was now in the house and taking forever to clear that debt off were just the tip of the iceberg (thankfully all cleared now and I received a £30 "goodwill" gesture payment).

Since the start of June though it has been HELL - As of this week there's been three failed appointments from engineers to turn up at the property and change my meters. I know the basics of the compensation and have already received £30 per meter for the first missed appointment plus another £30 per meter because it took them longer than ten working days to pay me.

Second appointment mid-July missed and they acknowledge to me that they owe me another £30 per meter of which wasn't paid on time so another £30 per meter was due (£120 still owed to me), they then said I could have an extra £30 "goodwill" payment for the hassle,

This week and we see a third appointment missed and it's really starting to p*ss me off... They owe me another two £30 cheques (great, but not so great) - It's becoming stupid!!

I know it's not these guys direct but an outside company who comes to change them but nevertheless they're my provider and they need to make sure it's done. Their excuse this time was that there was no engineers available in my area and they're being "trained up". The woman even mentioned could I "wait a few months until the new engineers have been trained and we then book another appointment" - SERIOUSLY!?

Have you written to them and raised a complaint about your issues - you may get something done a lot quicker than relying on speaking to various agents on the phone.
  • Yes, I've sent them a detailed e-mail stating an "official complaint" with everything in question mentioned on two occasions now and the merry-go-round still continues...
