Hi all,
I am going to try and lay some laminate flooring myself in my hall, I have watched a few videos online and i think i get the idea of what to do.
On think i am not sure is is how to add scotia strips the around my doors as in theory they wouldn't have much of a start or an end?
Below are some pics

Can anyone advise on how i would to this? I already have a skirting board and it's the same throughout the flat so i don't really want rip it off.
Thanks

Your best option is to fit scotia on the longer runs and then use a saw to undercut the architrave at the foot of each door. You'll need a special saw:
One of these: http://amzn.eu/5RUe4KC
Or these: http://amzn.eu/j3wr4He
Or rent one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192292612074The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Id got with flat edging.
Scotia trim always look tacky in my opinion.0 -
Could you use "Flexible" scotia strips around the door areas?
Not sure how good it is but should look fine.0 -
You don't put Scotia around frames. You either under cut, or leave a small neat evenly cut gap and then use silicon or caulk to finish it off.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Although I prefer removing the skirting, when installing wood/laminate flooring, this makes the job significantly more involved.
A quadrant trim painted together with the the skirting, so it all blends in, doesn't look bad in my opinion.
As others have said, door frames need to be undercut. Easy to do with a scrap piece of laminate and underlay placed under a suitable saw, to ensure you don't cut too much or too little off.Charles J0 -
If you're fitting a standard wood effect like oak and going for scotia, consider getting real wood Scotia and buying online, personally I think it looks a lot better than the film covered mdf Scotia you get in the stores and it isn't much more expensive either.
For gaps around doors, you can get acrylic sealants in timber colours for flooring applications.0 -
Take skirting off and undercut the door frame. Takes longer but looks so much better.0
