I don't think it's too unusual for a house to go on to sell for less than an earlier offer without the sellers going back to previous bidders. Sellers may feel they were coming "crawling back" and losing face to go back to someone who bid a month ago and whose offer they rejected.

I would say if you do want it around your offer price to keep in contact either to say "I still really want it but can/will only pay X" so the seller doesn't have to go back to you - you are still persuing them or after a break you offer say 2k more so the seller can think they accepted your offer because you raised it albeit a small amount.

Obviously the house could sell to someone else in the mean time. If the house sells now for 5k more than your offer will you feel regret or will you think "fair enough - I wouldn't have wanted it at that price anyway"?
