Frustrating credit report Experian

Options
Hi
I have still got a poor credit score 697/999 on experian. Did it through this site and got a full analysis re credit report and an affordability rating. Everything is positive.... No. Issues with payment history , amount of credit etc nothing negative at all and affordability for loans rated as high. ONLY negative is I rent apparently this brings my score to poor? I earn 36k plus a year. Have rented privately since 1997 due to personal circumstances. Now I have saved a deposit want to buy house and this credit rating has put me off applying for a mortgage as dread I will be rejected. I am 53 so know mortgage may be harder to get anyway and was planning to use a sizeable lump sum from pension to pay some of mortgage off at 55. All the advice on improving this credit score doesn't apply as I have none of the issues.
Any advice? Anybody been through similar? TIA

    It's very simple.

Your score is a made up number that has nothing to do with your credit worthiness.

No one sees it, no ones uses it, and it is no more accurate than your horoscope.

    Just manage your credit responsibly.
  • I do manage my money and credit very well the report analysis says that is the case. My worry is this score rated as poor will effect my chances of getting a mortgage? Is that not the case?

    See post 2.

The score is made up by Experian. It doesn't reflect how lenders see you. It is purely designed to keep you logging in.

Lenders cannot see your score and will only judge you on your credit history. Never a random number.

Do you have many credit accounts reported on your file? Cards and loans etc...

  • 1 HP car, 2 catalogues, 2 credits cards. All up to date with credit cards low balance and available credit high.. Eg 300 pound on visa with 10.5k
In the analysis said credit was sufficient and reasonable
  • In that case, since you are saying everything is up to date, with a good history of payments, I would suggest ignoring your score and just accepting that your history is good. I'm assuming you are on the electoral register? And I'm assuming you are using the credit cards, to pay for everything n your monthly budget, then paying off the full balance after the statement is received?

The only income that Experian know I get is my state pension, c.£8500 pa. I have two credit cards with a total credit limit of £6750 and a loan for £10000. My 'score'? 999. Laughable...ignore it.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
