Nokia 6230i USB problem

Hi
purchased a USB cable (not official) for my nokia 6230i. Can't get it to work. Problem appears to be when I go to connectivity option on my phone to turn on the usb connectivity it cannot be turned on. The message displayed is "connect usb data cable first". Does anyone know how I can sort this problem?

If you need the cable for mp3 files your better off getting a card reader and writer put your memory card in and open my computer or right click and send to the drive your memory card is in . So if i was you i would take your cable back. Not sure if this helps but worth a go.

Thanks everybody - downloaded latest version of software. It is very easy to use. Problem is still the phone wont connect to the computer - it still seems to be the fact that the i cannot select usb cable on the phone. Any further ideas?
