I'd stick with your dad doing it, but staple the receipts for each set of service parts together and fill in the service book with mileage and date carried out. You could even buy yourself a little stamp with 'Garage of Dad' written on it:). Then if you do have to sell earlier than expected, people have evidence that it is properly serviced. If you make the stamp professional enough, they probably won't even notice that it's done by garage of dad. You can also advertise it as FSH.

Following on from fred246 & Nobbie1967 comments I'm wondering if there's a point ie manufacturer/price/model etc (excluding exotic Italian V12's and the like) that you wouldn't DIY service, especially from new?
I would normally buy the oldest main dealer car with warranty and go DIY from there but I'm thinking of buying new/delivery mileage for the first time. I keep the receipts and the previous timing belt/tensioner/damper (whatever) etc and pictures of the engine/car on stands/in bits but have normally then given it to a family member.
So who would ever buy (if at all!) a 3-4 year old performance BMW/Audi (or similar) that's been DIY maintained? Priced accordingly of course.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?
