    Fun, though.

To the OP - it is always cheaper to walk, whether 100 yards or 100 miles. There is an argument that cycling is even cheaper than walking (show leather vs tyre wear) but a car will always be the more expensive option.

Others have mentioned multiple trips - perhaps he only wants a gallon for the lawn mower :)

I thought an irrelevant, inapplicable, unnecessary response was needed for such a irrelevant, inapplicable, unnecessary question.

I think I proved it's very expensive to walk. Very expensive.

And I didn't factor in the depreciation of the car sitting on his drive whilst he's walking. Add that to the total and it's hideously expensive to walk that 0.1 miles to the petrol station.

And don't fill the car up too much as the extra weight means you will do less mpg.

The extra 30Kg for a full tank as opposed to half a tank makes no real world difference when a car weighs around a tonne!

Absolutely correct but nevertheless plenty of people like to fuss about such trivial matters.

As they say "if I were going there I'd not start from here"....

A thinking person would go to the garage when they were already passing it, not when they're sitting on their sofa scratching their nutz and pondering going out to buy fuel as the sole purpose of a journey.
:T This is what most people think.
  • Personally I would just drive there. The few pence used is going to be irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If you are really worried then just fill up the full tank and you'll be making fewer trips there!

That’s why I dive like I stole it for the first half tank, to lighten the load and save fuel. Then after that I drive as fast as possible so I get to petrol station before I run out of petrol.

And of course the less time that you are on the road means that statistically you will have fewer accidents

Why don't you sit around at the petrol station and wait for a Tanker to turn up to fill the station tanks. Slip the tanker driver a few quid and get him/her to drive to your house to fill up your tank!
