Caught on redlight camera but was in midst of white line

I have sudden stopped at the yellow amber but was over on the white line but was not blocking the pedestrian crossing however car was standstill at red.
Then there comes the flash being activated on me even i was standstill.
Will i get a ticket even i stopped at the red light. Should i contest it when the ticket comes. If i would have gone through yellow then i would have avoided the flash. Any suggestions? any advice?

That's a tough one; the offense is if any part of the car crosses the line after the light turns red. So technically (I think) you may be OK if you weren't moving at all. However you'd need to check with a lawyer that specialises in road traffic law.
I suspect that being partly over the line when the light changes, even if not moving, is enough to trigger the penalty process.

If the car didn't move even 1mm during the red, you won't get a ticket.
There should be 2 photos, taken with the light on red, which will show movement.

The offence as Herzlos says is if any part of the vehicle (including the towball) moves over the line on red. (Strictly, amber, but there is the defence of "unsafe to stop" so prosecution is normally just on the red)

  • thanks guys for the quick reply. One thing to add is, when i have stopped over the white line. i looked in the back mirror and there was nobody so tried reversing it a little but by that time a car was already coming in my lane so i stopped reversing and stayed standstill. But still i was over the white line and the lovely flash happened.
Will the pictures be looked by a human or will it be send automatically?

You were moving, but backwards- wait and see what comes through the post. They have 14 days to notify the person who is recorded as the keeper of the car, and ask for the driver's details. If you get a ticket, try over at the pepipoo forums for advice, at the moment, no-one knows what will happen.

  • thanks facade for the reply.
One last thing, is there is any golden chance that if the photograph get looked by a human, they can see the car was not running over the red light and might be lenient not issuing the NIP?

They are supposed to be, I suspect they flash 3000 pictures an hour on a screen past some bored minimum wage operative who is supposed to weed out any errors.
