Have you got other quotes to actually compare and see if the ones you have are expensive??
I always say when I ask for a quotation that I am looking for the best price first and ask them to not mess me around chipping here and there.
I would ask if there was any "wiggle room" in this price quoted
Have a look at the profile of when you're expected to pay - deposit etc - make sure you're clear and agree anything in writing ahead of any work starting - always retain around 10% as a snagging/finishing up buffer.
Make sure you get a schedule and timescale for when the work will start, at what point will the contractor need paying and what payment methods i.e. paying by card gives you some protection but not all companies accept cards.
You should give some thought as to what will qualify as "good quality finish" and make sure you keep lines of communication open with your contractor and put any agreed changes in writing!0
